The Kinetic Development Group MREX MKII is the fix a lot of SCAR owners have been after. FN's factory rifle is a proven workhorse, but the blocky OEM handguard with its bolt-on rail sections makes the gun feel chunky and awkward to grip. This 4.25in Mark II swaps all that out for a slim, purpose-built extension machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and finished in Magpul-matched Flat Dark Earth Cerakote, so it plays nice with the rest of your FDE setup.
The biggest change from the first-gen MREX is the move to M-LOK almost everywhere. Slots run the full length of the rail, and KDG added mounting at the 2 and 10 o'clock positions that also act as a shield from the gas block. The full-length top Picatinny of the older version is gone, replaced by M-LOK with a dedicated drop section at the 12 o'clock for lights and lasers, so your gear sits low and clear of your optic. Two M-LOK Picatinny rail sections come in the box to give you back accessory rail wherever you want it.
The 4.25in number is how far the rail extends past the SCAR upper receiver. This length was dialed in for issued-rifle users, making it a strong match for a SCAR MK17 running a 13in barrel with an FNH suppressor. If you want a full-size extension for a 16in gun, the 6.5in is the way to go, and the 2.2in suits shorter SBR builds.
The MKII is easier to install than the original, with less hardware in spots that never needed it, and once it's mounted to your barrel assembly it can stay put through configuration changes and quick barrel swaps. There's essentially no weight penalty over the factory setup, so you gain grip real estate and mounting flexibility while keeping the rifle balanced and slim in the hand.
