Turkey hunters chase one thing above all else: a pattern so tight and dense it puts every pellet where it counts. The JEBS Head Hunter earns its reputation there. Machined from stainless steel with a matte finish, this ported tube threads into 12 gauge Retay shotguns using the MaraPro choke system and carries a .660 exit diameter, which lands right in the sweet spot for a lot of 12 gauge turkey setups.
What sets this one apart is JEBS' patented multi-staged interior bore. Instead of a single squeeze, the bore steps the shot column down in stages, which helps the shot and the wad cup separate cleanly as they leave the barrel. That cleaner separation is what tightens things up and stacks more pellets into a 10-inch circle downrange. The ports along the tube also bleed off gas at the muzzle, which trims a bit of felt recoil and muzzle jump, a nice touch when you're shooting heavy 3-inch turkey loads.
A .660 constriction pairs well with lead #5 and #6 loads and does serious work with TSS in the #7 and #9 range. Keep in mind the exit diameter tells only part of the story since your barrel's bore size affects how a given choke patterns. A .660 that hammers in one gun might be a touch tight in another, so patterning is never wasted time.
Do yourself a favor and pattern it before season. Shoot a few different loads at 40 yards on a big sheet of paper, draw a 10-inch circle around the densest part, and count your hits. Once you find the load your gun and this choke like best, dial in your sight or red dot to match. Built in the USA, the Head Hunter is the kind of tube plenty of folks screw in once and never think about swapping again.
This particular model is threaded for 12 gauge Retay shotguns that use the MaraPro choke system. JEBS makes the Head Hunter in fits for many other platforms like Remington, Browning Invector Plus, Benelli and Beretta, so if you don't run a Retay, look for the version matched to your gun's thread pattern. Always confirm the choke matches your barrel before shooting.
Yes. The Head Hunter is a favorite among TSS shooters and patterns extremely well with tungsten loads in the #7 and #9 range, as well as lead #5 and #6. The multi-staged bore is designed to squeeze dense, precise patterns out of these premium turkey loads.
The ports vent gas near the muzzle, which helps cut down on felt recoil and muzzle jump when you touch off heavy turkey loads. It won't change your point of impact or pattern density on its own, but the reduced kick is a welcome bonus during patterning sessions and in the field.
Absolutely, and it's worth every shell. Bore diameter varies from gun to gun, so the same .660 exit can throw different patterns in different shotguns. Shoot a few loads at 40 yards, count your hits in a 10-inch circle, and go with whatever combo stacks the most pellets on target.
