The 7mm STW is a serious big-game cartridge designed for precision at extended distances. HSM has built its GameKing line around this principle, loading it with the proven Sierra GameKing 160-grain spitzer boat tail bullet. Each round features components specifically matched to the bullet profile—powder charge, primer, and case dimensions all work together to extract maximum performance and consistency from the cartridge.
Sierra's 160-grain spitzer boat tail brings legitimate ballistic advantages to the field. The tapered boat tail design reduces drag significantly, which translates to higher retained velocity and energy downrange compared to flat-base alternatives. You get flatter trajectories and less wind drift—critical advantages when you're stretched out at distance. The spitzer profile and GameKing construction are designed specifically for long-range big game hunting, offering the kind of accuracy hunters need to be confident making ethical shots at extended range.
What separates HSM Game King ammunition from generic factory loads is the attention to component matching. Every powder charge, primer, and brass dimension has been selected to work with that specific Sierra bullet. The result feels almost like handloads when you're shooting them. The boxer-primed brass is reloadable, so you can extend the life of quality brass when you're ready to develop your own loads.
The 7mm STW itself is built for versatility—it'll handle everything from whitetail to elk in open country and mountainous terrain where longer shots are normal. This load sits right in the sweet spot for the cartridge, delivering the velocity and energy the STW was designed around without pushing pressures to uncomfortable levels.
The 7mm STW with a 160-grain Sierra GameKing is effective on mid-to-large game including deer, elk, and similar species. It's particularly well-suited for hunting in open country and mountainous terrain where shots may exceed 300 yards. The cartridge delivers the velocity and energy needed for clean, ethical kills at extended distances when proper shot placement is made.
Yes. HSM loads this ammunition in boxer-primed brass cases, which are reloadable. The 7mm STW is actually considered a handloader's cartridge since factory ammunition options are limited. Once you've fired these rounds, you can reload the brass with new components following standard load data for the cartridge.
The boat tail design reduces aerodynamic drag significantly, which means the bullet retains velocity and energy better downrange. This results in a flatter trajectory, less wind drift, and higher striking energy at distance compared to flat-base bullets. For a cartridge like the 7mm STW designed specifically for long-range work, the boat tail advantage becomes increasingly important as distance increases.
No, this HSM GameKing ammunition is non-corrosive. The primers and components are selected to eliminate corrosive residues, making cleanup and barrel preservation straightforward after shooting sessions.
