Hornady Precision Hunter 7mm PRC 175gr ELD-X

Description

If you're looking for factory ammo that delivers real hunting performance without the guesswork, Hornady's Precision Hunter line puts precision engineering into every round. The 175-grain ELD-X bullet is built from the ground up as an all-range hunting projectile, meaning it performs equally well whether you're shooting tight at 100 yards or stretching it out to 400 yards and beyond.

What Makes the ELD-X Different

The ELD-X design centers on a Heat Shield polymer tip that stays stable through aerodynamic heating during flight. That stability matters because it lets the bullet maintain its ballistic shape and trajectory for flatter shooting and tighter groups. At close range with high velocity impacts, the bullet progressively expands through its penetration path with 50-60% weight retention. When you're taking longer shots where velocity has bled off, that Heat Shield drives backward into the bullet to initiate controlled expansion with 85-90% weight retention and deep penetration. It's one bullet that genuinely works across the velocity spectrum most hunters will encounter.

Built for Consistency

Hornady doesn't just load bullets into brass and call it done. Every Precision Hunter round uses clean-burning propellants loaded to uniform capacity, which means your velocities stay consistent shot-to-shot regardless of whether you're hunting in Colorado heat or during a cold snap. That attention to load uniformity translates directly to tighter groups and more predictable downrange performance. The premium brass casings and quality primers add to the reliability factor, especially important when your opportunity window opens and closes quickly.

Real-World Hunting Performance

The 7mm PRC itself is a modern cartridge designed to push heavy, aerodynamic bullets efficiently. The 175-grain bullet delivers strong ballistics with a .689 ballistic coefficient (G1) that resists wind deflection and maintains velocity over distance. Field experience with this load shows it performs much like a 7mm Rem Mag would, making it a solid choice whether you're hunting elk in rugged country or deer on rolling terrain.
