Hornady Custom ammunition brings factory-grade quality control to loads built with the same attention to detail you'd expect from a careful handloader. Each round in this 20-round box is inspected by hand before it ships, and the components are matched specifically to deliver consistent pressure and velocity shot after shot.
The 100-grain CX bullet is a copper solid design that balances expansion with weight retention, giving you the controlled penetration needed for medium game. At 2550 feet per second, this load generates 1444 foot-pounds of energy right out of the muzzle, dropping game efficiently within hunting ranges. The copper construction is a clean-burning alternative where required, and the ballistic tip on the CX helps maintain velocity downrange without adding unnecessary complexity to terminal performance.
The 6.8 SPC is a proven cartridge for hunting deer and hogs, especially from shorter-barreled carbines. This load delivers the kind of energy and accuracy shooters expect from Hornady, backed by millions of successful hunts using their bullets over decades. Whether you're running an AR platform or a bolt gun, the Custom line gives you factory ammunition that performs the way handloaders have always known their ammo could perform.
Every part of these rounds is hand-selected and assembled to exacting standards. Non-corrosive boxer primers are matched to the powder charge, reloadable brass cases are cleaned and inspected, and the whole package goes through final visual inspection before boxing. That attention to detail translates to rounds that chamber smoothly, shoot where you aim, and perform reliably in the field.
Yes. The 100-grain CX bullet at 2550 fps delivers solid medium-game performance for deer and hogs inside 300 yards. The controlled expansion and weight retention of the CX design make it well-suited for hunting applications. This load balances energy transfer with penetration so the bullet performs reliably in field conditions.
The CX is a solid copper construction designed for consistent expansion and weight retention without a lead core. It features a ballistic tip that aids downrange velocity retention while maintaining reliable expansion characteristics at typical hunting velocities. This design works well in lead-free regions and delivers the controlled performance hunters rely on.
Yes. The cases are reloadable brass and maintain good quality after firing. Since these are hand-inspected factory loads with matched components, the brass will perform reliably through multiple reloads if you process and maintain them properly like any premium brass casings.
The 6.8 SPC delivers substantially more energy than 5.56 NATO from the same barrel length, making it a proper hunting cartridge where 223 falls short. The 100-grain CX bullet in this load provides the kind of terminal performance and penetration that makes a meaningful difference on medium game, especially from AR-platform rifles.
