Howa has been building the 1500 action since 1979, and the Fence Line series takes everything that made it a favorite among deer hunters and puts it in a package dressed for the field. This one comes chambered in .270 Winchester, a cartridge that has been flattening whitetail, mule deer, and pronghorn for the better part of a century, feeding from a 5 round internal magazine with a hinged floorplate for quick, easy unloading at the truck.
The 22 inch barrel is cold hammer forged, which means long barrel life and consistent accuracy, and it wears a Cerakote finish that shrugs off weather and fence post dings alike. The muzzle is threaded and ships with a radial brake already installed, so you can tame recoil right out of the box or spin the brake off and run a suppressor when it is time to keep things quiet. Legacy Sports backs the barreled action with a lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects and guarantees sub-MOA performance, one inch or better at 100 yards with quality factory ammo. That is not marketing fluff, it is a written promise, and Howa rifles have a long track record of delivering on it.
The action itself is the same smooth-running system trusted by hunters and even military and law enforcement users around the world. You get a 90 degree bolt throw with dual locking lugs, an M16-style extractor for positive ejection, and the excellent HACT two-stage trigger that breaks clean without a gunsmith visit. The three-position safety lets you cycle the bolt and unload with the safety engaged, or lock the bolt down completely for crossing rough country. The receiver is ready for a Picatinny rail, so mounting glass is straightforward.
The lightweight polymer stock wears the Scorched Earth camo pattern, a warm earth-tone scheme that blends into sage, scrub, and hardwoods without screaming for attention. Pair this rifle with a solid scope and a box of 130 or 150 grain loads and you have a legitimate do-it-all big game setup that will outlast a lot of rifles costing considerably more.
Yes. The 22 inch barrel comes threaded from the factory with a radial muzzle brake already installed. Remove the brake and you can mount a suppressor or another muzzle device of your choice, which makes this one of the more flexible hunting rifles in its class.
No, the long action Fence Line models like this .270 Win feed from an internal magazine with a hinged floorplate. It holds 5 rounds and the floorplate design lets you dump unfired rounds quickly without cycling each one through the action. The detachable magazine setup is reserved for the mini action versions of the Fence Line.
Legacy Sports guarantees sub-MOA performance, meaning groups of one inch or less at 100 yards with premium factory ammunition. The cold hammer-forged barrel and HACT two-stage trigger do a lot of the heavy lifting there. For a hunting rifle at this price point, that kind of guaranteed accuracy is hard to beat.
It does not ship with a rail or rings, but the receiver is drilled and tapped and ready to accept a Picatinny rail or traditional bases. Standard Howa 1500 long action mounts fit, and there are plenty of options available since the 1500 shares its mounting pattern with some of the most popular actions on the market.
