The Fence Line series is Howa's answer to a simple question: what does a real working hunting rifle look like in 2026? The recipe here is the proven Model 1500 barreled action dressed in a Scorched Earth camo Hogue stock, with the barrel and receiver wearing a Burnt Bronze Cerakote finish that shrugs off weather and truck-bed wear. This one is chambered in 25 Creedmoor, the quarter-bore cartridge that has hunters and long range folks talking, and it feeds heavy, high-BC .25 caliber bullets that carry energy and buck wind far better than the old 25-06 loads your uncle grew up on.
The 22 inch cold hammer forged barrel comes threaded from the factory with a Cerakoted radial muzzle brake already installed, so you can run it as-is, tame recoil with the brake, or spin on a suppressor. Howa backs the whole package with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee, and the HACT two-stage trigger is a big reason they can. It breaks clean without the gritty pull you find on a lot of rifles in this class. The action runs on dual locking lugs with a 90 degree bolt throw and an M16-style extractor, and the three-position safety lets you cycle rounds out with the safety engaged or lock the bolt down entirely for the walk back to the truck. Capacity is 5 rounds through a hinged floorplate, which keeps the profile slick with nothing to drop in the snow.
Howa has been building the 1500 in Japan since 1979, and the reputation is well earned. These actions get used as the foundation for plenty of custom builds for a reason. Add a soft recoil pad, a receiver ready for scope bases, and a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, and you have a deer and antelope rifle that will stretch out on steel targets without complaint. Solid choice for anyone who wants one rifle that does ranch work and range days equally well.
Think of it as the Creedmoor case necked down to .25 caliber, launching heavy, sleek quarter-bore bullets that hold velocity and fight wind drift better than traditional .25 caliber loads. It is a great fit for deer, antelope, and hogs, and it doubles nicely as a long range steel cartridge with manageable recoil. Factory ammo from Hornady is the easiest place to start.
No, this short action model feeds from an internal magazine with a hinged floorplate, holding 5 rounds. That keeps the bottom of the rifle snag-free and means there is no magazine to lose in the field. Howa reserves detachable mags for the mini action Fence Line models.
Yes. The 22 inch barrel is threaded at the muzzle and ships with a Cerakoted radial brake installed. Remove the brake and you can thread on a compatible suppressor or another muzzle device of your choice.
No optic or rail is included. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases, and mounts made for the Howa 1500 short action (which shares the Remington 700 footprint on many bases) are easy to find. Budget for rings and glass that match how far you plan to shoot.
