Description

There's something great about a bolt gun chambered in 7.62×39. Ammo is everywhere, recoil is mild, and inside 200 yards it hits plenty hard for deer, hogs, and coyotes. The Howa Fenceline takes that idea and builds it right, pairing Howa's mini action with a 22 inch cold hammer forged barrel, a Cerakote treated barreled action, and a painted polymer stock in the Gray Light pattern. The muzzle comes threaded with a radial brake already installed, so you can run it as-is, quiet it down with a suppressor, or swap muzzle devices without a trip to the gunsmith.

Why the Fenceline Mini Action Earns Its Keep

Howa has been building the 1500 action since 1979, and the mini action version trims that platform down to fit short cartridges like the 7.62×39. The shorter, lighter bolt means a quicker throw and less movement off the rifle when you cycle a follow-up shot. You also get the HACT two stage trigger, which breaks clean right out of the box, plus a three position safety that lets you unload with the safety engaged. Dual locking lugs, a 90 degree bolt throw, and an M16 style extractor round out an action that runs smooth with both brass and steel cased ammo. Feeding comes from a detachable box magazine, and the 1:9.45 twist barrel is set up to stabilize the common 122 to 125 grain bullets this cartridge does best with.

A Working Rifle in Gray Light

The Fenceline name fits. This is the rifle that rides in the truck, leans by the barn door, and comes along when you're checking cattle or sitting a field edge at last light. The Gray Light coated stock and Cerakote metalwork shrug off weather that would have a blued and walnut rifle looking rough in a season. Howa backs it with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee at 100 yards and a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, which is real confidence in a rifle at this level. Feed it decent hunting loads like a 123 grain SST and it will surprise people who only know this cartridge from semi-autos.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Howa Fenceline 7.62×39 run steel cased ammo?

Yes. Howa builds the barrel to standard 7.62×39 bore specs, so common steel cased range ammo feeds and fires reliably, and the M16 style extractor handles it well. For hunting or tighter groups, quality brass cased loads like the 123 grain Hornady SST tend to shoot best in these rifles.

Is the barrel suppressor ready?

It is. The 22 inch barrel comes threaded 5/8×24, which is the standard pattern for most .30 caliber suppressors and muzzle devices. A radial muzzle brake comes installed from the factory, so just spin it off when you want to mount your can. Always confirm thread compatibility with your suppressor manufacturer first.

Is the Howa Fenceline accurate enough for deer hunting?

Absolutely. Howa guarantees sub-MOA performance at 100 yards with quality ammunition, and independent testing of the mini action in 7.62×39 has consistently produced groups around an inch or under with good hunting loads. With a 123 grain soft point or SST, it delivers terminal performance in the same neighborhood as the .30-30, which has taken deer for over a century.

What magazines does the Fenceline mini action use?

It feeds from Howa's proprietary detachable mini action magazine, the same one shared with the 6.5 Grendel chambering. One magazine ships with the rifle, and spares are available through Legacy Sports and most major retailers. The standard capacity is 5 rounds.
