Description

If you're setting up a Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard long action for reaching out past 500 yards, this EGW rail is one of the cleanest ways to do it. It's a one-piece Picatinny base cut from solid 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, then tumbled, sand blasted, and Type III hard coat anodized for a tough matte black finish that holds up to real-world use. The 20 MOA cant angles your optic downward relative to the bore, which banks extra upward adjustment in your turret so you have room to dial for distance without running out of elevation.

What Makes This Howa 1500 Rail Worth Running

The full-length Picatinny cross slots are machined the full width and gauged to MIL-STD 1913 specs, so you get plenty of flexibility for ring placement and eye relief. The one-piece design keeps everything in line and cuts down on the movement you can get from two-piece bases under recoil. It sits low at roughly 0.35 inches from the top of the receiver to the top of the rail, and the whole thing weighs in around 2.5 ounces, so it won't throw off the balance of a trim hunting rifle.

Fitment and the 20 MOA Call

This base is built for the Howa 1500 long action and Weatherby Vanguard long action, and it also fits the Smith & Wesson 1500 long action. It will not fit the Howa 1500 Superlite, so keep that in mind if you've got the lightweight model. The general rule of thumb: go 0 MOA if you're mostly inside 500 yards, and reach for this 20 MOA version when you're stretching out toward 1000. EGW suggests zeroing at 200 yards when running a 20 MOA base.

Mounting Up Your Weatherby Vanguard Rail

Everything you need to get it on the gun comes in the package. The mount is ambidextrous with a bevel on both sides, works with any Picatinny or Weaver rings, and is compatible with quick-disconnect ring setups. Torque the screws to 20 inch-pounds with a drop of blue thread locker and you're good to go. It's made right here in the USA.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this EGW rail fit my Howa 1500?

Yes, it's designed for the Howa 1500 long action, as well as the Weatherby Vanguard long action and Smith & Wesson 1500 long action. It will not fit the Howa 1500 Superlite. It's a good idea to measure the hole spacing on your receiver against the published center spread of 4.485 inches before mounting to confirm the match.

Should I go with the 20 MOA version or a 0 MOA rail?

The 20 MOA cant tilts the optic downward relative to the bore, which preserves extra upward adjustment in your scope for long-range dialing. EGW recommends 20 MOA for shooting roughly 500 to 1000 yards, while a 0 MOA base is the better pick if you stay inside 500 yards. If you choose this 20 MOA rail, EGW suggests zeroing at 200 yards.

What rings do I need for this Picatinny rail?

This is a MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny base, so any Picatinny or Weaver scope rings will work. It's also compatible with quick-disconnect ring setups. Rings are not included, so you'll want to grab a set that matches your scope tube diameter and gives you the right height clearance for your objective bell.

Does the mount come with the hardware to install it?

Yes, it ships with the #6-48 x 1/4 screws and a T-10 bit, so you have what you need to get it on the gun. EGW recommends torquing the screws to 20 inch-pounds and adding a drop of blue thread locker for a secure hold.
