At the heart of this rifle is Howa's proven 1500 barreled action, built in Japan with a cold hammer forged barrel and a one-piece forged bolt and receiver. That kind of manufacturing is a big part of why these rifles have a reputation for shooting tighter groups than their price tag suggests. The 24 inch heavy contour blued barrel gives the 7mm PRC the room it needs to build velocity, and the 1:8 twist stabilizes the heavy, high BC bullets this cartridge was designed around.
The green Hogue OverMolded stock is more than a comfortable place to put your hands. It is pillar bedded, so the action sits on a solid, consistent foundation instead of flexing polymer, which pays off in repeatable accuracy from shot to shot. The rubbery overmolding also gives you a sure grip with cold hands, wet gloves, or a sweaty palm on a long pack out. At 8.25 pounds bare, this rifle has enough heft to settle down on target and soak up some of the 7mm PRC's push without being a bear to carry.
The HACT two-stage trigger breaks clean with a light, predictable pull, and it is one of the better factory triggers you will find on a rifle in this range. A three-position safety lets you lock the bolt down or cycle rounds with the safety still engaged, which is a nice touch when unloading at the truck. The muzzle comes threaded 1/2×28 for a brake or suppressor, the receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases, and a 3-round magazine gives you 3+1 on tap. Set this one up for elk, mule deer, or steel way out past where most rifles get uncomfortable, and it will hold up its end of the deal.
Yes, the 24 inch barrel comes threaded from the factory in 1/2×28, so you can mount a suppressor or muzzle brake without a trip to the gunsmith. With the 7mm PRC's recoil, a good brake is a popular add for range days, and a can makes it much more pleasant to hunt with.
No optic or bases are included. The receiver is drilled and tapped, so you just need bases or a one-piece rail that fits the Howa 1500 long action pattern, plus rings for your scope. Given what the 7mm PRC can do at distance, it is worth pairing this rifle with quality glass.
The barrel runs a 1:8 twist, which is exactly what the 7mm PRC calls for. It stabilizes the long, heavy, high BC bullets in the 175 to 180 grain range that make this cartridge such a strong performer on elk-sized game and long-range steel.
It is a true pillar-bedded setup. The action bolts down onto aluminum pillars inside the Hogue OverMolded stock, which keeps torque and contact consistent from shot to shot. The soft overmolded exterior is just a bonus for grip and comfort in rough weather.
