The Hornady Lock-N-Load Iron Press earns its name. This is a heavy-duty, fully ambidextrous single-stage press built around a cast iron frame that tips the scale right around 26 pounds assembled, making it one of the stoutest presses you'll find on a loading bench. All that mass does real work too. Tight tolerances through manufacturing and assembly keep flex to a minimum, so your sizing and seating stay consistent round after round, which is exactly what you want when you're chasing match-accurate ammunition.
The spring-assisted 1-1/8 inch solid steel ram is the backbone here. It's thick, strong, and the spring assist takes some of the grind out of running full-length sizing on bigger cases. Pair that with the patented Shell Holder Platform and you get the Iron Press signature feature: the ability to deprime, pause, pull the case off to chamfer, deburr, or clean a primer pocket, then set it right back and keep going. That flexibility is tough to find on a standard single stage.
Like every Hornady metallic press, the Iron Press uses the Lock-N-Load bushing system. Instead of threading dies in and out, you set your die once in a bushing, then lock it in and out with a quick twist. It accepts standard 7/8 inch-14 dies, so your existing die sets drop right in. The frame also shares the same mounting pattern as the Hornady AP and Classic presses as well as the RCBS Rock Chucker, so swapping onto an existing bench setup is painless.
This model ships with the manual prime system, which lets you seat primers right on the press. An Accessory Mounting Deck gives you a spot to keep bullet trays, case prep tools, neck brushes, and primer pocket cleaners within arm's reach while you work. Down the road you can add Hornady's gravity-fed Automatic Priming System if you want to speed up your routine even more.
Yes. The Iron Press accepts standard 7/8 inch-14 reloading dies, which covers the vast majority of brands on the market. You set each die in a Lock-N-Load bushing once, then twist it in and out for quick changeovers without resetting your adjustment every time.
This model comes with the manual prime system, which lets you seat primers by hand right on the press. Hornady also offers a gravity-fed Automatic Priming System you can add later if you want to pick up speed, and there's a kit version that includes auto prime out of the box.
It uses the same mounting pattern as the Hornady AP and Classic presses along with the RCBS Rock Chucker. If you're coming from one of those, bolting the Iron Press onto your existing bench setup should be straightforward. Keep in mind mounting hardware is not included.
