This little kit is the kind of thing that just belongs in every gun owner's range bag or truck box. Hoppe's built the U22 around their famous No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner, the solvent that's been keeping bores clean since 1903 and has that unmistakable scent plenty of folks grew up around. It's set up to handle a wide spread of small and mid caliber rifles, covering .22, .222, .223, .224, .225, .243, .25, .25-06, and .257, so one box takes care of your rimfire plinker, your AR, and your deer rifle all in one shot.
Open the box and you've got the essentials sorted out. Inside is a bottle of Hoppe's No. 9 solvent, a bottle of lubricating oil, cleaning patches, aluminum cleaning rods that thread together, knob and slotted ends, adapters, and a bronze bristle brush sized for the caliber range. There's no guesswork here, just the parts you need to run a patch, scrub the bore, and wipe things down before they go back in the safe.
The reason this kit earns its keep comes down to that solvent. Hoppe's No. 9 penetrates fast and pulls out powder, lead, carbon, and metal fouling, then leaves behind a coating that helps fight rust. Let it soak on stubborn fouling and it does most of the work for you. It's earned a reputation over the decades as a dependable all-around bore cleaner, and it plays nice with gun finishes and plastic parts.
Everything packs back into a polypropylene box with a double latch and rounded corners, so it holds up to getting tossed in a bag or bounced around the truck bed. At right around 14 inches long, it stores easily on a shelf or in a range bag without taking over. For routine maintenance on smaller caliber rifles, it's a straightforward, no-nonsense way to keep your gun running right.
The U22 is set up for .22, .222, .223, .224, .225, .243, .25, .25-06, and .257 caliber rifles. That range makes it handy for a .22 rimfire, an AR chambered in .223/5.56, and a lot of common varmint and deer rifles. One box handles a good chunk of a typical rack.
Yes. Hoppe's No. 9 is formulated to remove powder, lead, carbon, and metal fouling without harming standard gun finishes or plastic parts. It also leaves a rust-preventative coating behind after you wipe the bore. Just follow the directions included in the kit.
You can. While it's labeled as a rifle kit, the components and caliber range also cover pistols in those same bore sizes. The rods and brush work fine for handgun barrels within that .22 to .257 window.
It does. Everything ships in a reusable polypropylene box with a double latch and rounded corners to help it survive getting knocked around. It keeps all your gear together and travels well in a range bag or truck.
