The Hogue Tamer set takes a classic Remington 870 and turns it into a compact, comfortable, easy-handling shotgun. You get a full pistol grip and a short police-style forend, both wrapped in Hogue's OverMolded soft rubber over a fiberglass-reinforced polymer core. The result is a grippy, non-slip hold that stays put in wet or cold conditions and doesn't feel spongy or slick like some rubber grips do.
The headline feature is the Sorbothane recoil insert tucked under the web of your hand. It's the same grip technology Hogue puts on the Smith & Wesson 500 revolver, and if you've ever fired one of those you know it earns its keep. Under stout buckshot or 3-inch magnum loads, that insert takes a real bite out of the felt recoil that a bare pistol grip usually drives straight into your wrist. The grip itself follows Hogue's orthopedic hand shape with compound palm swells and proportioned finger grooves, and it's ambidextrous, so lefties and righties both get a natural fit.
The forend runs a short police-style profile at about 7 1/4 inches, which keeps things trim and works nicely alongside a side saddle shell carrier. Both pieces mount up with basic hand tools, and most folks have the swap done in a few minutes. A grip attachment bolt comes in the box, though a forend nut wrench makes pulling the old forend off cleaner if you have one on hand.
This is a favorite for breaching guns, truck and boat shotguns, and any 870 build where a short, maneuverable package matters more than a shouldered stock. Keep in mind a pistol-grip-only 870 handles differently than one with a full stock, so spend a little range time getting your technique dialed in. Once you do, this is one of the more comfortable ways to run a bare-grip 870.

It's made for 12 gauge Remington 870 models and fits across the lineup, including Wingmaster and Express guns. The set is not designed for 20 gauge 870s. If your gun is a standard 12 gauge 870, you're good to go.
