Anybody who has run a stock AK for a while knows the factory grip leaves a little to be desired. It's thin, it's slick, and after a long day at the range it lets you know about it. Hogue's OverMold grip fixes all of that. It takes their signature soft rubber and molds it right over a lightweight fiberglass core, so you get a cushioned, hand-filling feel without giving up any of the rigidity that keeps the grip locked to the rifle.
The magic is in the Cobblestone texture. It's an aggressive enough stipple pattern to keep your hand planted, but it won't chew up your palm the way sharp checkering can. The rubber has a slight give to it that soaks up some of that AK buzz, and the three finger grooves along with the palm swells naturally guide your hand into the same spot every time you shoulder the rifle. The shape is ambidextrous too, so lefties get the same comfortable feel as righties.
