This is the wood version of Hogue's popular Bantam grip, shaped for Smith & Wesson J Frame round butt revolvers. Instead of the rubber, it's cut from Goncalo Alves, one of the harder and more durable hardwoods used for handgun stocks, and finished by hand so it looks sharp and feels smooth in the palm. The Bantam design keeps things trim by fully exposing the backstrap and the bottom of the frame, which is exactly what you want on a little snubby you plan to carry.
Hogue built the Bantam as a compact, lightweight take on their well-known ergonomic hand shape. It's a two-piece grip with a single finger groove and ambidextrous palm swells, so it fills the hand a bit more than flat panels without turning your pocket gun into a full-size shooter. No, and that's by design. The Bantam shape leaves the backstrap and the bottom of the frame exposed to keep the grip slim and easy to conceal. Some carriers prefer this open-back feel, while others who shoot heavier loads sometimes want a covered backstrap for more cushioning.
