Description

If your 1911 still wears slick factory panels, the Hogue 45000 is one of the easiest upgrades you can make. This is Hogue's classic wraparound rubber grip for full-size 1911 Government models, molded from a dense synthetic rubber that has some give to it without ever feeling spongy or sticky. The result is a grip that soaks up a noticeable amount of felt recoil from .45 ACP loads while keeping the gun planted exactly where you want it.

The texture is Hogue's signature Cobblestone pattern, a fine stippling that grabs your hand securely without chewing it up the way aggressive checkering can during a long range day. Molded-in finger grooves index your hand to the same spot on the frame every single time, which pays off in faster follow-up shots and more consistent groups. Inside, a rigid reinforcing insert engages the frame directly, so the grip locks up solid with zero shift or squirm. The rubber also shrugs off the gun oils and solvents you'll use during normal cleaning, so it won't get gummy or break down over time.

Installation is about as simple as it gets. The grip is designed to work with your existing factory grip screws and bushings, with standard 3 1/16 inch screw hole spacing for Government frames. Hogue recommends snugging the screws to around 12 inch-pounds with a properly fitting 3/32 inch hex driver. It's also cut to clear an ambidextrous thumb safety, so lefties and ambi-safety setups are covered right out of the package.

This one's a smart pick for anyone who shoots their 1911 regularly, whether that's weekend range sessions, defensive practice, or just wanting a more confident hold on a carry gun. Shooters consistently report better control, softer recoil, and a near-custom feel in hand. In matte black, it keeps the classic 1911 look while quietly doing its job every time you pick the gun up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this grip work with an ambidextrous thumb safety?

Yes. Hogue designed its 1911 Government rubber grips to function with or without an ambidextrous safety installed. The relief cut is already molded in, so there's no trimming needed for most standard ambi safety setups.

Do I need special screws or hardware to install it?

No, the grip is made to install with your pistol's factory grip screws and bushings. Hogue recommends tightening the screws to about 12 inch-pounds using a correctly fitting 3/32 inch hex driver. Most folks have it installed in five minutes or less.

Will it fit my Commander or clone 1911?

Government and Commander frames share the same grip dimensions and 3 1/16 inch screw spacing, so this grip fits both full-size frame patterns from most makers, including many .45 clones. It will not fit compact Officer-size frames. A few clones with oversized safeties may need very minor fitting, which owners report is quick work with a sharp blade.

Does the rubber feel tacky or wear out from gun oil?

No. Hogue's OverMolded rubber is firm and dense rather than spongy or sticky, and it resists the oils and solvents used in routine cleaning. It holds up well to years of regular shooting and carry without getting gummy or degrading.

Does it actually reduce felt recoil?

Shooters consistently notice softer felt recoil with this grip compared to hard wood or plastic panels, especially with full-power .45 ACP loads. The rubber cushions the hand while the finger grooves and Cobblestone texture keep the pistol from shifting under recoil, which makes follow-up shots quicker and long range sessions more comfortable.
