H&K built this one as a duty gun first, and it shows in every detail. The V3 configuration gives you a traditional double action/single action trigger with a spurred hammer and a rear-mounted decocking button, so you can safely drop the hammer for that longer, deliberate first pull, then enjoy crisp single-action follow-ups once you are running.
Pick one up and the grip is usually what seals the deal. H&K includes interchangeable backstraps and lateral grip panels, so you can dial the frame to your hand instead of forcing your hand to fit the frame. The stippled texture locks in without chewing up your palm, and the controls are genuinely ambidextrous, with slide releases on both sides and a paddle-style magazine release you can hit with either hand. Left-handed folks do not get treated like an afterthought here. The paddle release takes a range session or two if you grew up on button releases, but most people end up preferring it once the habit sets in.
The 3.85 inch barrel uses H&K's polygonal bore profile, which squeezes a bit more velocity out of your ammo, cleans up easier, and holds up over a long service life. The one-piece machined slide is nitro-carburized steel with a hostile environment finish, riding on a corrosion-proof, fiber-reinforced polymer frame with a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail up front for your light or laser. A luminous front sight paired with a blacked-out rear gives you a clean sight picture in low light without cluttering things up.
This package ships with one 17-round magazine and one 20-round magazine, giving you a full 20+1 on tap when you want it. Those 20-rounders also run in the VP9, which is a nice bonus if you already own one. Whether it lands in a nightstand, a duty rig, or your range bag, the P30 V3 is the kind of pistol you buy once and keep for decades.
H&K offers the P30 in several trigger variants, and V3 is the traditional double action/single action setup. It uses a spurred hammer and a decocking button mounted at the rear of the slide, letting you safely lower the hammer for a long first pull, with lighter single-action pulls after that. Other variants like the V1 LEM use a different double-action-only style system.
Yes, P30 9mm magazines are cross-compatible with the VP9, so the included 17 and 20 round mags will run in both platforms. That makes this a convenient pickup if you already own a VP9 or plan to add one later. The 20-rounder extends slightly below the grip but seats and feeds reliably.
It is one of the better options out there for lefties. The slide release levers are mirrored on both sides of the frame, and the paddle-style magazine release on the trigger guard works identically from either hand. The interchangeable backstraps and side grip panels also let left-handed users fine-tune the fit.
This model wears a fixed luminous front sight paired with a plain black rear. That setup puts your eye on the front sight fast and works well in dim conditions without a busy sight picture. The sights are steel, and aftermarket options are available if you want a full tritium set down the road.
