The P30 earned its reputation the hard way, as a police and security pistol that was tested well past the point most guns would give up. In one well-known endurance test, a P30 ran over 91,000 rounds without a major component failure. That kind of durability is what you're buying into here. This V3 configuration gives you HK's traditional double action/single action trigger with a spurred hammer and a serrated decocking button tucked into the rear of the slide, so you can safely drop the hammer on a loaded chamber without ever touching the trigger.
Most pistols give you a backstrap or two and call it a day. The P30 V3 includes interchangeable backstraps plus lateral grip panels, letting you dial in both the girth and the side-to-side feel of the frame. The grip angle, frontstrap contour, and high rear saddle were all shaped around the human hand, and it shows the moment you pick one up. Controls are truly ambidextrous, with slide releases and paddle-style magazine releases on both sides, so lefties get the same experience as everyone else.
The 3.85 inch barrel uses HK's polygonal rifling, which seals gases behind the bullet for better velocity and typically outlasts conventional rifling by thousands of rounds. Up top you get a luminous front night sight paired with a plain black rear, a setup a lot of defensive shooters prefer since your eye goes straight to the front post in low light. The extractor doubles as a loaded chamber indicator you can see and feel, and the fiber-reinforced polymer frame carries a Picatinny rail for a light or laser. This model ships with two 10-round magazines.
At 7.12 inches long and just over 26 ounces, the P30 V3 sits in that sweet spot between full-size shootability and realistic carry weight. If you want a hammer-fired 9mm that will still be running strong decades from now, this is the one to handle first.
HK offers the P30 in several trigger variants, and V3 is the traditional double action/single action setup. The first shot can be fired with a longer double action pull, then the pistol fires in a lighter single action for follow-up shots. A serrated decocking button at the rear of the slide lets you safely lower the hammer without touching the trigger.
No, this version does not have a thumb safety. It relies on the DA/SA trigger, a firing pin safety, and the rear decocker for safe handling. If you want an ambidextrous thumb safety on this platform, HK builds that into the P30S variant instead.
It carries well for a full-size service pistol. At 7.12 inches long and about 26 ounces, it is manageable with a good belt and holster, and the decocker plus long double action first pull gives many carriers extra peace of mind. If you want something smaller in the same family, look at the P30SK subcompact.
This SKU ships with two 10-round magazines. The P30 platform also runs factory 15 and 17-round P30 magazines, which fit and function in the same magwell. HK factory mags are the way to go here since the gun's reliability reputation is built around them.
