The VP9A1 X Tactical VTX is one of the most complete factory setups H&K has ever shipped. It takes the VP9A1 X crossover platform — compact slide, full-size grip — and adds a 4.7" cold hammer-forged threaded barrel (M13.5×1 LH), suppressor-height night sights, and a factory-mounted Vortex Defender CCW enclosed-emitter red dot, all bore-sighted and ready to go. No gunsmith visit, no adapter plate hunting, no guesswork. The crossover concept puts this pistol in a sweet spot that a lot of people are gravitating toward: the shorter slide of the compact K model paired with the full-size F model's grip frame and 17-round flush-fit capacity. It handles and carries more like a mid-size pistol while still giving you a full firing grip and room for a 20-round extended magazine when you want it.
The suppressor-height sights are a big deal here. They sit tall enough to give you a lower-third co-witness through the Vortex Defender CCW's window and stay visible over the body of most standard 9mm cans. That means if your optic goes down, your irons are still in the fight. The Vortex Defender CCW itself is an enclosed-emitter design, which keeps the dot running through dust, debris, and weather that would fog or contaminate an open-emitter optic. It is a solid pairing for a pistol in this role.
The A1 generation isn't just cosmetic. The grip frame was redesigned with interchangeable side panels and backstraps offering 45 possible fit configurations, and the old finger grooves from the original VP9 are gone. There's also a molded-in flared magwell for faster reloads, a nickel-teflon coated trigger bar, and more aggressive front and rear slide serrations in a maritime pattern. The trigger itself runs around 5 pounds with minimal take-up, a well-defined wall, and a short reset — which has always been one of the VP9 platform's strongest selling points. Controls are fully ambidextrous, including HK's signature dual-paddle magazine release, bilateral slide stops, and the rear charging supports on the slide. The optics cut accepts nine different adapter plates covering Trijicon, Holosun, EOTech, Leupold, Meopta, Vortex, and more — relevant even on this VTX model if you ever want to swap optics down the road.
The threaded barrel on the VP9A1 X Tactical uses an M13.5×1 LH (left-hand) thread pitch. This is a common metric thread standard used on many 9mm suppressors, but you'll want to confirm your can's adapter or thread pitch before attaching. Most major suppressor manufacturers offer muzzle adapters in this thread pitch.

The standard VP9A1 X uses a 4.09" barrel with a standard muzzle crown. The Tactical version bumps that up to a 4.7" cold hammer-forged barrel with a threaded muzzle and upgrades the sights to suppressor-height night sights that co-witness with a mounted optic. Both share the same full-size crossover grip frame and optics-ready slide.
The slide uses HK's nine-plate adapter system, which covers footprints from Trijicon, Holosun, EOTech, Leupold, Meopta, Vortex, Aimpoint, Shield, and others. On the VTX model specifically, the Vortex Defender CCW is already factory-mounted, but the system gives you flexibility to swap to a different optic down the road if needed.
This VTX model ships with one 17-round flush-fit magazine and one 20-round extended magazine. It is compatible with standard VP9 family magazines in 10, 15, 17, and 20-round capacities. The grip frame is designed to feed from both flush and extended mags reliably.
The A1 generation trigger was refined over the already well-regarded original VP9 trigger. Pull weight runs approximately 5 pounds with minimal pre-travel, a defined break, and a short tactile reset. The trigger bar also received a nickel-teflon coating as part of the A1 updates, which contributes to consistency and smoothness over the long haul.
