HEVI-Steel brings serious velocity to the non-toxic steel shotshell category. These 2.75-inch loads clock out at 1500 feet per second, pushing 9% more energy downrange at 30 yards and 8% more at 40 yards compared to standard fast-steel loads. That velocity matters when you're trying to make clean, ethical kills on waterfowl across changing conditions.
The real advantage of this load is the combination of velocity and HEVI-Shot's custom wad system. While some shooters treat steel loads as a necessary compromise, these shells are engineered to deliver the pattern consistency you'd expect from a premium waterfowl round. The wad keeps pellets together longer, so more of them are working for you when the bird's in range. You get the benefit of a dependable steel option without sacrificing the performance foundation that separates quality ammo from the basics.
These rounds come with all-weather primers designed to fire reliably in the cold, wet conditions that come with late-season duck and goose hunting. The #2 shot size is a proven choice for waterfowl across diverse setups and choke combinations. With 1-1/8 ounces of shot per shell, you're getting a sensible payload that cycles reliably in most shotguns while delivering the knockdown energy that matters in the field. Every detail is built around what actually works when you're standing in a blind waiting for the right opportunity.
HEVI-Steel is loaded to 1500 fps, which is faster than most competing steel loads. This extra velocity delivers measurable advantages in energy retention at distance, resulting in more knockdown power and fewer crippled birds in the field. The custom wad system also helps maintain tighter patterns than basic steel loads.
HEVI-Steel works in standard 12 gauge shotguns that are rated for 2.75-inch shells. The all-weather primers ensure reliable ignition in cold, damp waterfowl hunting conditions. As with all ammunition, always verify that your specific shotgun is compatible with the load before purchasing.
The #2 shot size in this load is versatile for both ducks and geese across most hunting scenarios. Many hunters use #2 as their go-to choice for waterfowl because it offers enough pellets for pattern density on ducks while providing adequate penetration on larger geese. Your choke selection and distance will matter more than the exact size.
HEVI-Steel is purpose-built for waterfowl hunting where non-toxic shot is required. While you could use them for upland birds in areas requiring non-toxic shot, the load is optimized for waterfowl performance and longer-range shooting where the velocity and pattern characteristics shine.
