The Hevi-Hammer changes the waterfowl game by stacking 15% HEVI-Bismuth pellets over 85% steel shot. The bismuth layer fires first and does the heavy lifting downrange, while the steel behind it fills in your pattern. This dual-pellet design lets you extend your range without the sticker shock of all-bismuth loads.
Most waterfowl shooters know the trade-off: straight steel is budget-friendly but burns out fast downrange, while bismuth delivers serious energy but digs into your wallet. The Hevi-Hammer splits the difference with its layered payload. Because bismuth is roughly 22 percent denser than steel, it carries that energy further and hits harder. Real-world hunters report tighter patterns and noticeably better results on late-season birds, especially geese that hang outside the decoys.
Loaded to 1500 fps in a 3.5-inch magnum case, these shells push a full 1.5-ounce payload downrange in BB shot size. BB is the go-to for geese and pass-shooting situations where you need that extra knockdown at distance. The combination of bismuth's weight and steel's filling power creates a pattern that performs across a wider range of distances than you'd get with pure steel alone. It cycles reliably in both semi-autos and pumps, with no issues feeding or ejecting.
Each box of 25 rounds is loaded fresh and ready to go. The shells are built to standard 12-gauge specs, so they work in any 12-gauge shotgun without modification or choke adjustments. The brass is consistent and reliable, and these loads shoot clean.
The Hevi-Hammer puts bismuth's density advantage to work while keeping the cost reasonable by using steel as the base. The bismuth layer gives you the extended range and energy you'd get from all-bismuth loads, but at a lower price point. You get better downrange performance than pure steel without paying full bismuth money.
The Hevi-Hammer is a standard 3.5-inch magnum 12-gauge shell that cycles in any 12-gauge shotgun designed for 3.5-inch loads. They work great in semi-automatics, pumps, and over-unders. No special modifications or chokes needed.
BB is excellent for geese and pass-shooting situations where you need maximum distance and penetration. For decoy hunting closer to the blind, many hunters prefer smaller shot like #2 or #3. BB gives you that extra reach when birds hang outside your effective range, which is where the Hevi-Hammer's extended pattern really shines.
Users report zero issues with cycling in both semi-automatics and pumps. The 1500 fps velocity is strong enough to handle cycling smoothly without any feeding or ejection problems. These are consistent, field-proven loads.
