The load uses HEVI-Shot's Pattern Density Technology to stack high-density bismuth pellets over corrosion-resistant steel. Thirty percent of the payload is bismuth, while seventy percent is steel. This combination isn't a compromise between power and performance. The denser bismuth pellets are layered on top to deliver penetrating hits, while the steel provides pattern filling. Your bismuth component is sixteen percent denser than earlier generation heavier-than-steel alloys, packing smaller pellets that hit with greater authority than traditional or enhanced steel loads alone.
At 1500 fps, these shells deliver flat trajectories and sustained downrange energy that standard steel simply can't match. The BB shot size makes these shells particularly effective on larger waterfowl and geese where penetration matters. You get the increased lethality of premium material without stepping into pure tungsten pricing, which matters when you're running through multiple boxes a season. HEVI-Metal Longer Range combines high-density bismuth pellets layered over steel, increasing downrange power by 16 percent compared to earlier heavier-than-steel loads. The bismuth component carries more energy downrange, enabling tighter patterns and extended effective range versus traditional steel. You get improved lethality without the full cost of pure tungsten shells.
BB shot is most effective on larger waterfowl like geese and big ducks at extended range, where the larger pellet size ensures penetration and authority. The extended range and higher density make it ideal for pass shooting or pressured birds that keep their distance from decoys.
These shells are 3-inch magnums, so your shotgun must be chambered for 3-inch loads and rated for steel shot. Most modern waterfowl guns handle them without issue. If you're unsure about your particular shotgun's specifications, check your owner's manual or contact the manufacturer before shooting.
