Description

There is something about carrying a side-by-side through a field that a pump or semi-auto just can't replicate, and the Heritage Badlander Field model leans into that feeling without asking you to baby a fragile finish. The 28 inch barrels and receiver wear a matte black chrome coating that looks like traditional oxide bluing but holds up noticeably better against moisture and wear, so a damp morning in the blind isn't going to keep you up at night. Underneath all that is a checkered Turkish walnut stock and forend with a satin finish, capped with a rubber recoil pad that takes some of the sting out of heavier 3 inch loads.

What Makes This Badlander a True Field Gun

Unlike the short coach gun versions of the Badlander, this Field model comes threaded for Mobil-pattern chokes and ships with four tubes: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, and Improved Cylinder. That is the difference between a novelty and a working shotgun. Screw in the Improved Cylinder for early season birds over dogs, tighten up to Full when the shots stretch out, or run Modified for clays. The 3 inch chambers give you room for everything from light target loads to stout hunting shells.

Old-School Controls, Done Right

Heritage kept the traditional layout here: twin triggers so you can pick your barrel and choke instantly, a tang-mounted two-position safety that falls right under your thumb, and a brass bead up front sitting between the barrels on a solid sighting rib. It is a simple, proven setup with very little to go wrong. The gun is built in Turkey by Büyük Huğlu, a maker with a solid reputation for wood-to-metal fit at sensible prices, and reviewers have consistently noted how cleanly these come together out of the box.

Where the Badlander 12 Gauge Shines

This is the double gun for upland hunts, casual clays, turkey season, or anyone who just wants a proper walnut-and-steel side-by-side in the safe. It swings naturally, breaks open easily once the action wears in, and looks the part doing it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Heritage Badlander 12 gauge take choke tubes?

This 28 inch Field model does. The barrels are threaded for the common Mobil choke pattern, and Heritage includes four tubes in the box: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, and Improved Cylinder. Note that the shorter 18.5 inch Badlander coach gun models have fixed cylinder bores instead, so make sure you're looking at the right version.

Can the Badlander handle 3 inch shells?

Yes, both barrels are chambered for 3 inch 12 gauge shells, and it runs 2 3/4 inch loads just as well. That covers everything from light target loads to magnum turkey and waterfowl shells. The rubber recoil pad on the walnut stock helps tame the heavier stuff.

Who makes the Heritage Badlander and where is it made?

The Badlander is manufactured in Turkey by Büyük Huğlu and imported by Heritage Manufacturing, the same folks known for the Rough Rider revolver line. Turkish double guns from established makers have earned a solid reputation for quality fit and finish at a fair price, and published reviews of the Badlander have praised its wood-to-metal fit and reliable function.

Is the Badlander Field model good for hunting?

That's exactly what it was built for. The 28 inch barrels give you a smooth, steady swing for upland birds and clays, and the interchangeable chokes let you tighten patterns for turkey or longer shots. Field reports on this model note that it patterns well and shoots to point of aim with both barrels.
