The AR-7 has been riding along with U.S. Air Force pilots since 1959, and the concept has not changed because it never needed to. Henry builds this modern version around the same idea: a semi-auto .22 LR that comes apart in seconds and disappears into its own buttstock. The barrel, receiver, and two 8-round magazines all tuck inside the impact-resistant ABS stock, and the whole package measures just 16.5 inches stowed. No tools required going either direction, just thread the barrel nut on by hand, attach the receiver, and you are shooting in under a minute.
The steel barrel wears an ABS jacket with a Teflon coating, and the receiver gets the same corrosion-fighting treatment. That matters for a rifle that spends most of its life stashed in a pack, a truck box, or the hull of a canoe rather than a climate-controlled safe. The stock is water resistant too, so a rainy portage or a dunked drybag is not going to ruin your day. Everything about the design assumes you will forget about it for months and then need it to run.

Yes, the receiver has a 3/8 inch grooved rail that accepts rimfire scope rings and compact optics. Keep in mind the barrel and receiver may not fit back inside the stock with a larger optic mounted, so a low-profile red dot or small rimfire scope is the practical route. The included blade front and adjustable peep rear sights work fine for most small game distances.
This model ships with two 8-round magazines, and the stock has storage cutouts to hold both. As a semi-automatic, it is designed to cycle .22 LR specifically, so stick with standard or high-velocity .22 LR loads for reliable function.
