The H1 Tracker is Henry's answer to a question small game hunters have been asking forever: what does a squirrel rifle look like when someone builds it on purpose instead of by accident? Chambered in .22 WMR, this one gives you real reach and authority on rabbits, squirrels, and pests out past where a .22 LR starts to fade, all wrapped in a lever gun that runs as smooth as anything in the rimfire world. The 20 inch octagon blued steel barrel adds a steady, muzzle-forward balance that settles nicely on target, and the 1:16 twist stabilizes the full range of .22 Magnum loads.
Instead of the usual buckhorn setup, Henry topped the Tracker with a Skinner peep rear sight matched to a brass bead front. Peep sights are faster and more forgiving than open notches, especially in dim hardwood timber where squirrel hunting happens, and they tend to tighten up groups once your eye learns to center that bead. If you'd rather run glass, the receiver is grooved for 3/8 inch rimfire rings, so mounting a scope is a five minute job.
The American walnut stock with its checkered pistol grip gives the rifle a warm, traditional look and a comfortable hold, while the black receiver and blued steel keep everything subdued in the field. The Tracker uses a traditional tubular magazine under the barrel rather than a detachable box. You twist and pull the inner magazine tube, drop rounds in through the loading port, and slide the tube back home. It holds 13 rounds of .22 WMR, which is plenty for a full loop through the squirrel woods.
The .22 Magnum runs noticeably faster and hits harder than .22 LR, giving you a flatter trajectory and more decisive performance on rabbits, squirrels, and varmints at longer distances. If most of your shooting is high-volume plinking, the .22 LR model is cheaper to feed, but for a working small game and pest rifle, the WMR chambering earns its keep.
Like most traditional Henry lever guns, it uses a quarter cock hammer position instead of a crossbolt or tang safety. It keeps the lines of the rifle clean and the operation simple, the way lever actions have worked for generations.
