GrovTec built the GTSW192 for folks running a factory AR handguard who want a real Picatinny surface without tearing everything apart and buying a full drop-in rail system. It gives you five slots of MIL-STD 1913 real estate in a compact 3.1-inch footprint, which is plenty of room for a light, a laser, or a sight while keeping weight and bulk to a minimum.
The rail is precision CNC machined from solid, lightweight aluminum and finished with a Type III black hardcoat anodize. That anodizing does the heavy lifting when it comes to shrugging off scratches, corrosion, and the general abuse that comes with range days and hunting trips. It mounts to standard AR M4 and A2 two-piece forearms that have vent holes, using a sandwich-style setup with threaded backplates for a tight, rattle-free hold. With modification it can also work on flat surfaces if you get creative.
The standout here is the pair of push button base holes machined right into the rail. That means you can drop in GrovTec push button swivels and run a quick-detach sling straight off the rail, so this one piece pulls double duty as both an accessory mount and a sling attachment point. For a compact rail, that flexibility is tough to beat.
Installation is straightforward with the included hardware. The kit comes with the mounting bolts, washers, and threaded backplates, along with an Allen key to get it torqued down. You pull the lower handguard, line up the rail over the vent holes, and sandwich it in place. Because the rail uses that clamp-style mounting, it holds steady once it is snugged down. It is made in the USA, which is a nice touch for a part that is going to take a beating and needs to stay put shot after shot.
