Great Lakes Firearms has been quietly building solid, American-made ARs in Michigan for years, and this seasonal bundle is one of the more fun packages they put together. At the center of it is the GL15, a .223 Wylde AR-15 built on billet aluminum upper and lower receivers instead of the usual forgings, wearing a Lichen Grey Cerakote camo pattern that gives it a gritty, urban look that stands apart from the sea of flat black rifles out there. Alongside the rifle, the master carton holds five GLFA out-the-front style knives, each packaged in its own retail box.
The 16 inch stainless steel barrel is chambered in .223 Wylde, which means it happily digests both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO while squeezing better accuracy out of each than a standard 5.56 chamber typically allows. The muzzle is threaded, so adding a brake or suppressor down the road is simple. Up front you get a free-float M-LOK handguard for lights, grips, and sling mounts, and the flat top receiver leaves you a clean slate for the optic of your choice since no sights come installed. A telescoping buttstock keeps length of pull adjustable for different builds and layers of clothing, and a 30 round magazine ships with the rifle.
The included knives are no throwaway trinkets either. Each one carries a 3.5 inch single-edge D2 steel blade paired with a 4.5 inch 6061 aluminum handle, the same lightweight alloy used in plenty of AR receivers. D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel known for holding an edge, so these make handy companions for the range bag, toolbox, or glove box, or easy gifts for the hunting buddies who always borrow yours.
Great Lakes only offers these bundle packs during certain windows of the year, and the Lichen camo finishes are a special release rather than a standing catalog item. If the grey pattern catches your eye, this is the way to grab it with a stack of extras in the same box.
Yes, and that's the whole point of the .223 Wylde chamber. It safely runs both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO, and it tends to shoot both more accurately than a standard 5.56 chamber. Feed it whatever your range has on the shelf.
No, it ships without sights. The flat top upper gives you a clean rail to mount a red dot, LPVO, or backup irons, whichever fits how you plan to use the rifle. Most folks buying an optics-ready AR prefer starting with a blank slate anyway.
Each of the five knives has a 3.5 inch single-edge D2 tool steel blade with a 4.5 inch 6061 aluminum handle. D2 is a proven steel that holds an edge well, and they arrive individually packaged in retail boxes. They make solid everyday work knives or easy gifts.
It's Cerakote, a ceramic-based firearm coating known for excellent wear and corrosion resistance, not a spray paint job. The Lichen pattern is a special release from Great Lakes Firearms, so it isn't a finish you'll find on their standard catalog rifles year round.
