Grand Power took everything people like about the Stribog and stretched it into a proper 9mm carbine. The SP9A1 rifle runs a 16 inch steel barrel on the same simple direct blowback action that made the pistol version a favorite, and it pairs that with a Mil-Spec AR style trigger so the pull feels familiar the moment you pick it up. The barrel is threaded 1/2×28 and ships wearing a muzzle brake, so swapping muzzle devices down the road is quick work.
This version comes fitted with a side folding, adjustable stock, which keeps the whole package short for the safe or the range bag and lets you dial in length of pull once it is shouldered. The upper is machined aluminum with a full length Picatinny rail up top for a red dot or LPVO, and the M-LOK handguard gives you slots along the sides and bottom for a light or hand stop. Iron sights are included, so you can start shooting before you ever mount glass. The charging handle is non-reciprocating, which means it stays put while you fire instead of cycling back and forth next to your support hand.
Controls are genuinely ambidextrous, with a thumb safety and bolt lock/release set up for either hand. The SP9A1 uses a straightforward direct blowback action, while the SP9A3 runs a roller delayed system that softens recoil a bit. The A1 has fewer moving parts and a long track record of running reliably on a wide range of 9mm ammo. For a 16 inch carbine, the blowback recoil is already mild, so the A1 is a solid pick.
It runs proprietary Stribog magazines, and this model ships with three 30 rounders in the box. The translucent polymer mags are well made and easy to find from Grand Power and Global Ordnance, and they are shared across the 9mm Stribog lineup, so spares from a Stribog pistol will work too.
It is a strong fit. The Mil-Spec AR trigger feels familiar to anyone coming from an AR platform, the full length Picatinny rail handles dots and magnified optics, and ambidextrous controls speed up manipulations.
