The G19X has a story worth knowing. Glock built it specifically for the U.S. Army's Modular Handgun System trials, combining the compact G19 slide with the full-size G17 frame to give soldiers a shorter barrel for vehicle use while keeping a full grip and high-capacity magazine. Sig Sauer won that contract, but Glock brought the 19X to market in 2018 and it became one of their best-selling pistols. The V series is the current iteration, carrying forward everything that made the original great.
The crossover layout is the whole point here. The G17-length grip gives you a full four-finger purchase, which translates to better control and less perceived recoil compared to a standard G19. Meanwhile, the G19 slide keeps overall length in check. That combination also makes the balance feel noticeably different from either of its parent models. The full-size grip does mean this is a bigger carry proposition than a standard G19, but for home defense, range use, duty carry, or OWB everyday carry, the ergonomics are hard to argue with.
This specific configuration is the FDE 10-round V model, finished head-to-toe in that coyote/flat dark earth color that made the 19X famous as Glock's first-ever factory-colored pistol. The slide gets a durable nPVD coating, the frame is matching coyote polymer, and the controls are black for contrast. Inside the 4.02-inch barrel is Glock's Marksman Barrel, which uses improved rifling over earlier Glock barrels for better consistency and accuracy. The Safe Action trigger system runs the usual three passive safeties with no manual thumb safety to fuss with, and the factory Glock night sights give you a usable low-light setup right out of the box.
Other practical touches include ambidextrous slide stop levers, no finger grooves for a cleaner grip fit across different hand sizes, a flared mag well for smoother reloads, a front rail for light or laser attachment, and a lanyard loop built into the backstrap plug. The pistol ships with three 10-round magazines, making this a solid ready-to-run package.
The G19X V uses a full-size G17-length grip frame paired with the shorter G19 slide and barrel. That longer grip gives you a complete four-finger hold, which improves control and balance compared to the G19's abbreviated grip. The G19X also features the factory FDE nPVD finish, a lanyard loop, and ambidextrous slide stops that weren't standard on older G19 generations.
It's compatible with most standard Glock 9mm double-stack magazines, but there are some nuances. The G19X has a lip at the base of the magwell and a lanyard loop that can interfere with certain Gen 5 G17 magazines and some aftermarket extended baseplates. The included 10-round magazines and most aftermarket Glock-pattern magazines seat without issue.
This is the capacity-restricted V configuration of the G19X, which ships with three 10-round magazines. It's built for markets where standard-capacity magazines are restricted, but the pistol itself is otherwise identical to full-capacity variants in every functional way.
It's very well suited to both. The G17-length grip gives you better leverage and control than a compact pistol, the Glock Marksman Barrel improves shot-to-shot consistency, and the factory night sights are immediately useful in low-light situations. For home defense or open carry, the full-grip ergonomics are a real advantage.
nPVD stands for nano Physical Vapor Deposition, a coating process Glock uses on the 19X to achieve the coyote/FDE color on the slide. The G19X was the first Glock to ever feature a factory-colored slide. The coating is corrosion-resistant and hard-wearing for normal use, though like any finish it can show wear over time with heavy use against abrasive surfaces like kydex holsters.
No. Like virtually all standard commercial Glock pistols, the G19X V relies on the Safe Action system, which includes three passive, automatic safeties: a trigger safety, a firing pin safety, and a drop safety. All three disengage together when you press the trigger, and there is no external manual thumb safety.
