The original 17C earned a loyal following back in the day for one simple reason: the factory porting works. Now Glock has brought it back on the Gen 5 platform, and the 17C Gen 5V is the version a lot of folks have been asking about for years. The 4.49" ported Glock Marksman Barrel vents gases upward through matching cuts in the slide, taking the edge off muzzle rise so your sights settle back on target faster between shots. It's the kind of thing you feel immediately on a fast string of fire, and it makes extended range sessions with a full-size 9mm even more pleasant than they already are.
This isn't just the old 17C reheated. You get the full run of Gen 5 upgrades: the Marksman Barrel with its improved rifling, an nDLC-finished slide that shrugs off wear and the elements, a grip with no finger grooves so it fits more hands well, a flared magwell for quicker reloads, and an ambidextrous slide stop lever for left-handed use or support-hand work. Front slide serrations give you solid purchase for press checks and administrative handling. At just under 25 ounces unloaded, it carries the familiar balance of a full-size G17 with a little factory tuning up top.

The 4.49" barrel is factory ported, with cuts in the barrel and matching openings in the slide that vent gases upward when you fire. That upward push counters muzzle rise, so the gun stays flatter and your sights come back on target quicker. The effect is most noticeable during rapid fire and longer strings.
The Gen 5V version adds the full slate of modern Glock upgrades: the Glock Marksman Barrel, nDLC slide finish, front serrations, an ambidextrous slide stop, a flared magwell, and a grip without finger grooves. The compensated concept is the same, but the platform underneath is fully current. It also ships with three magazines instead of two.
Magazine compatibility is the same as any G17, so standard 17-round Glock mags and higher-capacity options run fine. Most holsters cut for a Gen 5 G17 will fit since the external dimensions match the standard model. The porting doesn't change the overall footprint of the pistol.
The upward-venting ports do redirect some blast and flash toward the top of the slide, so it can seem a bit louder from the shooter's position, especially indoors. With quality ammo and proper eye and ear protection it's a non-issue for range work. Many long-time C-model owners run them for years without complaint.
