Arex Defense has been making quality firearms in Slovenia since the mid-1990s, and the Delta M Gen2 shows that experience. This is the compact size in the Delta lineup, roughly Glock 19 in footprint, but with a noticeably thinner and more ergonomic grip profile that sits naturally in the hand. The Gen2 brought real improvements over the original: full ambidextrous controls, sandpaper-style stippling on all four sides of the grip with smooth edges to prevent snagging on clothing, and a flared magwell that makes reloads cleaner and faster.
One of the more interesting design choices here is the striker system. Unlike most striker-fired pistols where the striker is fully pre-cocked, the Delta uses a partially compressed striker spring. The trigger completes the cocking cycle as it travels, resulting in a longer, more deliberate pull that some will find more confidence-inspiring for carry. The flat-faced trigger has a short reset and tends to smooth out with use.
The optic-ready slide has a milled recess and ships with five polymer mounting plates that cover the major red dot footprints, including RMR, Doctor/Noblex, Shield RMS, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and similar. It is a plate-based system, which is worth knowing going in, but the plates are well-made and reviewers who have run them with optics report solid zero retention. Low-profile steel sights are included and are co-witness friendly. The rear sight is designed so you can rack the slide one-handed against a belt or holster if needed.
The frame is polymer with removable front and rear inserts that contain the slide rails and the entire fire control group. Critically, only the front insert is the serialized part, which means the grip frame itself is not serialized and can be swapped without paperwork. Four interchangeable backstraps let you dial in the fit for different hand sizes. The frame also features a multi-slot Picatinny rail under the dust cover for lights and lasers. The barrel is threaded 1/2×28 for suppressors or compensators and is nitrocarburized for durability. The pistol comes with one flush-fit 15-round magazine and one 17-round magazine with a slight extension.
The pistol ships with five polymer mounting plates that cover the most common miniature red dot footprints, including Trijicon RMR, Noblex/Doctor, Shield RMS, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and Burris Fastfire. This covers the vast majority of popular micro red dots on the market. Each plate comes with the appropriate hardware for a secure, low-profile mount.
The barrel is threaded 1/2×28, which is the standard pitch for 9mm suppressors and compensators in the US market. The standard sights on this model are low-profile, so if you plan to run a can regularly, you may want to look at suppressor-height sights for a usable sight picture over the can.
Most striker-fired designs have the striker fully pre-cocked when the slide cycles, giving them a shorter, lighter trigger pull. The Delta uses a partially cocked striker, and the trigger completes the cocking cycle during the pull. The result is a longer, heavier pull that is more deliberate and more comparable to a double-action feel, which some people prefer for carry.
No, there is no external manual safety on this model. Safety is handled through the integrated trigger blade safety and the firing pin block, which is standard for this style of striker-fired pistol. The partially-cocked striker design also adds an extra layer of passive safety compared to fully pre-cocked systems.
At roughly 7.1 inches overall with a slim, double-stack grip, it sits in a similar space as the Glock 19 in terms of carry size but with a noticeably thinner feel in hand. The smooth-edged stippling and snag-free ambidextrous controls were specifically designed with carry in mind. Most Glock 19 holsters will also work with this pistol, which makes finding a holster significantly easier.
The Gen2 brought several meaningful upgrades based on user feedback from the original. The biggest changes include fully ambidextrous magazine release and slide stop, new sandpaper-style stippling on all four sides of the grip, a flared magwell for faster reloads, a Picatinny rail for accessories, and the factory optic-ready option with the included plate kit. The overall size stayed the same, so Gen1 grip frames are also compatible.
