Great Lakes Firearms & Ammunition has built its reputation on accurate, no-nonsense rifles made in Michigan, and the SUB-1 bolt action carries that same DNA into the hunting world. Chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, one of the flattest shooting and softest recoiling deer and antelope cartridges you can buy, this rifle is set up for the hunter who wants real precision without the custom shop wait list. The name is the mission statement here, and everything about the build points toward tight groups at distance.
The 20 inch barrel is machined from 416R stainless steel, the same material favored by match barrel makers for its consistency and corrosion resistance. Fluting trims weight and adds surface area to help the barrel shed heat during longer range sessions. The muzzle wears 5/8×24 threading with a brake installed, so you can tame what little recoil the Creedmoor produces or spin the brake off and mount your own device when you want to run something quieter. An adjustable trigger lets you dial the pull to your liking, which matters a lot more than most spec sheets give it credit for.
The long strand carbon fiber stock keeps overall weight down where it counts, on your shoulder during a long climb or a full day still hunting. The Lichen Green finish looks sharp and blends well in timber and sage country alike, with the marbled carbon texture giving each stock a slightly unique look. It is a stiff, weather-stable platform that will not swell or shift your zero when the forecast turns ugly.
A detachable 5 round magazine comes with the rifle, giving you quick reloads and easy unloading at the truck. Pair it with a quality scope and the 6.5 Creedmoor factory ammo of your choice, and you have a lightweight rig that is ready for whitetail stands, western mule deer country, or stretching steel at the range. For the hunter who wants modern features like a threaded stainless barrel and carbon stock without a boutique price tag, this one checks the boxes.
Yes. The 20 inch fluted stainless barrel is threaded 5/8×24, which is the standard thread pitch for most 6.5mm and .30 caliber suppressors and muzzle devices. It ships with a muzzle brake installed, so you can run the brake or remove it and thread on your own can or device.
You can. The SUB-1 comes with an adjustable trigger from the factory, letting you fine tune the pull weight to your preference. A lighter, crisper break makes a noticeable difference when you are trying to squeeze the most accuracy out of a rifle at longer distances.
It is a very solid pick. The 6.5 Creedmoor is a proven deer cartridge with mild recoil and excellent downrange performance, and the carbon fiber stock keeps the rifle light enough for all-day carry. The 20 inch barrel keeps the package handy in a stand or blind while still getting good velocity out of the Creedmoor.
No, the rifle does not include iron sights or an optic. Like most modern bolt action hunting rifles, it is designed to be topped with a scope. Plan on adding a quality optic and mounts before heading to the range to zero it.
