Great Lakes Firearms and Ammunition has spent years earning a reputation for American-made rifles out of Sparta, Michigan, and the SUB-1 is what happens when that crew turns its attention to a bolt gun. Chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, arguably the most forgiving long range hunting cartridge going, this one pairs real long strand carbon fiber with a stainless barrel and keeps the whole package clean, black, and purposeful.
The 20 inch 416R stainless steel barrel is the heart of this rifle. 416R is the same grade of stainless favored by match barrel makers, and the fluting trims weight while adding surface area to help it shed heat between strings. The muzzle wears 5/8×24 threads with a brake installed from the factory, so you can run it as-is to tame what little recoil the Creedmoor produces, or spin the brake off and mount a suppressor without any extra work. Twenty inches is a smart length for 6.5 Creedmoor too, keeping velocity respectable while staying maneuverable in a box blind or on a long walk in.
The black long strand carbon fiber stock gives you rigidity where a bargain synthetic stock flexes, and it keeps carry weight in check for backcountry hunts. The metalwork is finished in black Cerakote, a coating GLFA applies in-house, so rain, snow, and truck bed abuse are not going to bother it much.
An adjustable trigger lets you set the pull to your liking, the detachable 5 round magazine makes loading and unloading quick, and a manual safety rounds out the controls. GLFA backs its firearms with a lifetime warranty and has a solid track record of standing behind them. For a do-it-all 6.5 Creedmoor that covers deer season, steel plates, and suppressed range days, the SUB-1 checks a lot of boxes without the boutique rifle wait time.
Yes. The 20 inch fluted barrel is threaded 5/8×24, which is the standard thread pitch for 6.5 Creedmoor and .30 caliber suppressors. Simply remove the factory muzzle brake and thread on your can. The brake is a nice bonus for unsuppressed shooting since it takes the edge off an already mild-recoiling cartridge.
It ships with one detachable 5 round magazine, which is a practical capacity for hunting and general range work. The detachable design makes loading and unloading quicker and safer than a blind internal box.
It is one of the most popular deer cartridges in the country for good reason. The 6.5 Creedmoor delivers flat trajectories and excellent downrange energy with noticeably less recoil than a .308, which makes accurate shot placement easier. Paired with the SUB-1's 20 inch stainless barrel, it is well suited for whitetail, mule deer, and antelope at practical hunting distances.
Yes, the SUB-1 comes with an adjustable trigger from the factory, so you can tune the pull weight to your preference. A lighter, crisper break is a real advantage for precision work at distance, while hunters may prefer a slightly heavier setting for cold weather use with gloves.
