Most AR-10s top out around .308-length cartridges. The Great Lakes GL-10 doesn't. Great Lakes Firearms stretched the platform into a true long action so it can run 6.5 PRC, one of the flattest-shooting hunting cartridges out there, through a semi-auto you can top off fast and follow up faster. If you've been wanting magnum-class ballistics without giving up the AR ergonomics you already know, this is that rifle.
The heart of it is a 24 inch 416R stainless steel barrel with 5R rifling and a 1:8 twist, which handles the long, heavy-for-caliber bullets the 6.5 PRC was designed around. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24 and wears a stainless muzzle brake from the factory, which takes real bite out of recoil and helps you stay on target through the scope. A rifle-length gas system keeps the action cycling smooth, and the whole thing rides on billet aluminum upper and lower receivers, with a 7075 billet lower, so there's no rattle or slop where it counts.
The OD Green Cerakote on the metalwork isn't just for looks. Cerakote shrugs off weather, scratches, and sweat better than most finishes, which matters when this rifle spends November in a box blind or a bean field. A Hogue fixed rifle stock gives you a solid, comfortable cheek weld for precision work, and the 20 inch M-LOK handguard with a full-length top rail leaves plenty of room for a bipod, sling mounts, and whatever glass you want to run. It ships without sights, so plan on mounting an optic worthy of the cartridge.
The rifle comes with a 5-round detachable aluminum magazine with a witness window so you can check your count at a glance. That capacity makes it a natural fit for hunting camps, and the AR-10 parts compatibility means grips, triggers, and stocks swap in easily down the road. For deer, elk, and long steel, the GL-10 in 6.5 PRC covers a lot of ground most semi-autos can't touch.
The GL-10 is a long action version of the AR-10 platform, stretched to run cartridges like 6.5 PRC that won't fit in a standard AR-10 magazine well. That said, Great Lakes built it to keep compatibility with common AR-10 components, so triggers, grips, safeties, and similar small parts swap in without drama. The magazines are proprietary to the long action design.
No, it ships without sights. The upper receiver and 20 inch handguard have a continuous Picatinny top rail, so you've got plenty of real estate for a scope and mount. Given the 6.5 PRC's long-range potential, a quality variable scope in the 4-16x or 5-25x range is a smart pairing.
This rifle shines as a long-range hunting and precision rig. The 6.5 PRC pushes high-BC bullets fast and flat, making it a strong choice for deer, antelope, and elk at extended distances, and the semi-auto action gives you quick follow-up shots. It's also a fun rifle for ringing steel way out there at the range.
Between the factory stainless brake, the rifle-length gas system, and the rifle's overall heft, felt recoil is noticeably softer than what you'd get from a bolt gun in the same chambering. That makes it easier to spot your own hits through the scope. The brake is threaded 5/8×24, so you can swap in a different muzzle device if you prefer.
