Glenfield was the value brand Marlin sold through department stores back in the 60s and 70s, and when Ruger picked up Marlin's assets in 2020, the name came along for the ride. The Model A is the first rifle to wear the badge since, and it's built by Ruger in the USA on the same three-lug, 70-degree bolt throw action that made the original American rifle such a hit. Nearly two million of those Gen I rifles went out the door, so the bones here are well proven.
The 20-inch cold hammer-forged barrel is free-floated and threaded 5/8×24 with a thread protector included, so adding a muzzle device down the road is simple. Ruger's Power Bedding block system locks the receiver into the stock for consistent shot-to-shot accuracy, and the trigger adjusts from 3 to 5 pounds so you can dial in a pull that suits you. A one-piece Picatinny base comes installed from the factory, which means mounting glass takes minutes instead of a trip for extra hardware. In .243 Winchester with a 1:9 twist, this is a soft-shooting setup that works for deer, antelope, and coyotes alike, and it makes a great first centerfire for a new hunter.
