The Hi-Power is one of the most beloved pistol designs ever put on paper, and the Girsan MCP35 Match is what that design looks like after somebody finally fixed the stuff old-school owners grumbled about. Girsan kept the all-steel frame and slide, the short-recoil operation, and the single-action trigger that made the original a legend. Then they added an extended beavertail so the hammer stays off the web of your hand, swapped in a straight trigger shoe with a clean break, and topped the slide with a fiber optic front sight paired with a windage and elevation adjustable rear. The result feels familiar in the best way but shoots like a pistol built for this century.
The Match treatment is more than a sticker on the box. That flat-faced trigger gives you a smaller, more consistent contact point for your finger, which most people find easier to press straight back than the original curved design. The adjustable rear sight lets you dial in your zero for whatever bullet weight you're feeding it, and the bright fiber optic up front snaps your eye to the target fast. Textured G10 grips and a beveled magwell round out the package, giving you solid purchase on the gun and smoother reloads when you're running drills against the clock.
At roughly 28 ounces of steel with a 4.87 inch barrel, this pistol soaks up 9mm recoil and settles back on target quickly. The ambidextrous thumb safety works well from either side, and the double-stack magazine holds 15 rounds, so you're getting 15+1 on tap. It also plays nicely with Hi-Power pattern magazines, which are easy to find and affordable to stock up on.
If you've always wanted a Hi-Power but couldn't stomach vintage prices, or you own an original and want one you can shoot hard without guilt, this is an easy pistol to like. It's a great range companion, a capable club-match entry, and a genuinely fun piece of shooting history you can put real miles on.
Yes. The MCP35 Match is built on the Browning Hi-Power pattern and accepts Hi-Power style magazines. It ships from the factory with a quality 15-round double-stack magazine, and aftermarket options like Mec-Gar mags are widely available if you want spares.
The Match version adds several upgrades over the base model: a straight clean-break trigger instead of the traditional curved one, a fiber optic front sight with a windage and elevation adjustable rear, an extended beavertail to prevent hammer bite, G10 grips, and a beveled magwell. The standard MCP35 is a more faithful clone of the classic Mark II/III style Hi-Power. If you want a rail for a light, look at the MCP35 Match OPS variant instead.
Noticeably better. Original Hi-Powers were known for long, heavy trigger pulls, while the Match's flat trigger typically breaks clean in the five to six pound range. The flat shoe gives your finger a consistent contact point, which makes the pull feel lighter and easier to control than the vintage curved trigger.
It's well suited to both. The adjustable sights, fiber optic front, clean single-action trigger, and beveled magwell were all chosen with match-style shooting in mind. Its all-steel weight helps tame recoil for fast follow-up shots, and the 15+1 capacity keeps you in the game between reloads.
