There's something about a Commander-length 1911 in .45 ACP that just feels right, and the Girsan MC1911C Untouchable nails that balance. The 4.4 inch barrel trims enough off the front end to make the gun quicker to carry and handle than a full Government model, while the all-steel construction keeps recoil pleasant and the sight picture steady. Girsan builds these in Turkey to tight tolerances, and the fit and finish consistently surprises folks who expect a budget 1911 to feel like one. This one doesn't.
EAA didn't just shrink a 1911 and call it a day. The Untouchable series adds the upgrades most people end up paying a gunsmith for anyway: an ambidextrous thumb safety, an extended beavertail grip safety that keeps the hammer off your hand and encourages a high grip, hexagonal textured G10-style grips that lock into your palm, and a flared magazine well for quicker reloads. The low profile 3-dot sights with a Novak-style rear give you a clean, snag-free sight picture, and the front and rear slide serrations make press checks and slide manipulation easy even with sweaty hands. A four-slot Picatinny rail on the dustcover means your weapon light or laser bolts right on, which is not something you can say about most classically styled 1911s.
The single-action trigger is where the 1911 platform earns its reputation, and this one breaks clean enough to make accurate .45 ACP shooting come naturally. With 8+1 on tap and one 8-round magazine in the box, it works as a defensive pistol, a range gun, or a first step into the 1911 world without a painful buyout. EAA backs the Untouchable line with a limited lifetime warranty, so you're not on your own after the sale. For anyone who wants genuine 1911 character with modern touches already installed, this Commander-size Girsan makes a strong case for itself.
Yes. It runs a 4.4 inch barrel on a steel frame, putting it right in classic Commander territory. You get the shorter, quicker-handling slide up front with a grip that still fits a full firing hand and holds 8+1 rounds of .45 ACP.
Standard single-stack .45 ACP 1911 magazines generally run fine in this pistol, which is one of the perks of Girsan sticking close to the original platform. For holsters, keep in mind this C model has a Picatinny accessory rail, so you'll want a holster cut for a railed Commander rather than a slick-dustcover 1911.
It does. The frame's dustcover carries an integral Picatinny rail with room for most compact weapon lights and lasers. That's a feature you rarely find on traditionally styled 1911s at this level, and it makes the pistol a solid pick for home defense duty.
EAA Corp backs the Girsan Untouchable line with a limited lifetime warranty for the original owner. Service is handled through their facility in Cocoa, Florida, so support is stateside if you ever need it.
