Rimfire suppressors get filthy. That is just the nature of .22 LR ammo, and it is why the GM-22 makes so much sense as a first can or a dedicated plinker. Gemtech built this one around their G-Core monocore, a single-piece baffle stack that pulls out for cleaning without a pile of loose baffles to keep in order. The core is treated with Gemtech's C3 Technology, a slick coating that resists lead and carbon buildup so the core comes apart from the tube without a fight, even after long range days. Gemtech says you can run north of a thousand rounds before it needs a takedown, which is more than most of us shoot before we feel guilty enough to clean anyway.
The numbers on this can are hard to argue with. Five inches long, one inch in diameter, and 2.5 ounces on the scale. For perspective, that is barely more than a standard A2 flash hider weighs. On a rimfire pistol like a Ruger Mark IV or a Browning Buck Mark, the GM-22 does not drag the muzzle down the way heavier stainless cans do, and on a 10/22 you will hardly notice it is there. The 7075-T6 aluminum tube is stronger than the 6061 used in a lot of budget rimfire cans, and the titanium 1/2×28 thread insert threads onto the most common rimfire pitch out there.
The GM-22 is full auto rated with .22 LR and also handles .22 WMR and .17 HMR, so it can pull duty on a magnum rimfire varmint rig too. Just skip the .17 WSM, as it is not rated for that one. Sound reduction lands in the 36 to 39 dB range, which takes standard velocity .22 down to backyard-friendly levels, and subsonic ammo through a rifle gets genuinely quiet.
This version wears a Flat Dark Earth high-temp Cerakote finish that also cuts down visual IR signature. Between the featherweight build, the easy-clean core, and Gemtech's decades of suppressor know-how behind it, the GM-22 is a simple, proven choice that will spend more time on the range than on the shelf.
The G-Core monocore pulls out of the tube as one piece, so there are no loose baffles to line back up. The C3 coating on the core keeps lead from bonding to it, and Gemtech says the can will run over 1,000 rounds between cleanings. Stick to mild solvents and hand scrubbing, and stay away from aggressive stuff like Hoppe's No. 9, lead dip, or ultrasonic cleaners since those can damage the aluminum.
It is rated for .22 LR, .22 WMR, and .17 HMR, and it is full auto rated with .22 LR. The one to avoid is .17 WSM, which runs hotter than this can is built for. That coverage makes it a solid pick for everything from plinking pistols to magnum rimfire varmint rifles.
As long as your barrel is threaded 1/2×28, which is the standard pitch for nearly all threaded rimfire pistols and rifles, it will thread right on. At only 2.5 ounces, it is a great match for pistols like the Ruger Mark IV or SW22 Victory because it barely changes the balance of the gun.
Gemtech rates the GM-22 at 36 to 39 dB of sound reduction. With subsonic .22 LR through a rifle, the action cycling is often louder than the muzzle. You will notice a bit of first round pop, which is normal for rimfire cans, and follow-up shots settle in noticeably quieter.
