The MK16 is the rail that came out of Geissele's work on the URG-I program, the Upper Receiver Group Improved adopted by USASOC. That's not marketing fluff either, the 13.5-inch version carries its own NSN and got picked up by special operations for a reason. This 15-inch DDC model gives you the longest reach in the MK16 lineup, covering nearly the full length of a mid-length or rifle-length gas system so you can push your support hand way out front and mount gear wherever you want it.
What makes this handguard stand out is the lockup. It clamps to your upper using Geissele's updated barrel nut design with anti-rotation tabs and set screws, which means the rail bites down hard and stays put through hard use. That rigidity is the whole point. If you're running a magnified optic, a laser, or night vision that needs to hold zero across the top rail, a rail that flexes or shifts is a dealbreaker. This one doesn't budge. The continuous M1913 Picatinny top rail runs the full length so you've got uninterrupted real estate for optics, magnifiers, and clip-on devices.
Geissele machines the MK16 from 7000 series aluminum and finishes it in Type 3 hardcoat anodize, so it's tough where it counts without carrying extra weight.
