Description
Mounting a red dot to a classic 1911 used to mean sending your slide off to a gunsmith for a milling job. This EGW plate skips all that. It replaces the factory rear sight by sliding into the dovetail, giving you a solid, low-sitting platform for a micro red dot without any permanent changes to the gun. When you want to go back to irons, pop it out and reinstall your rear sight. That kind of reversibility is a big part of why these are so popular with folks who want to try an optic before committing to a cut slide.
What the G.I. 1911 Red Dot Mount Fits
This is the GI cut version, built specifically for 1911s running a G.I. style rear sight cut. That covers a lot of ground including Springfield 1911A1 and various Iver Johnson models, but the slide cut is what matters, so it is worth confirming yours before ordering. On the optics side it uses the Docter footprint, meaning it works with the Vortex Viper, Vortex Venom open emitter, the Burris FastFire series, Docter, UTG Reflex Micro Dot, and several ADE, Crimson Trace, and Sightmark sights. If your optic rides a Docter pattern, odds are good it bolts right up.
Build and Install on the EGW GI Sight Mount
EGW machines this plate from 7075 aluminum and finishes it in a matte black hardcoat anodizing that holds up to real use. It measures 1.811 inches long and .99 inches wide, keeping the optic sitting low and close to the bore rather than perched up on a tall rail adapter. All the mounting hardware comes in the box, including button head screws for Vortex Viper and Venom sights, flat head screws for Burris FastFire and Docter, and a set screw. This is a press fit into the dovetail, so a sight pusher makes the job a lot easier. Once seated, a dab of blue Loctite on the optic screws torqued to spec and you are set up to run a dot on an old school 1911.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this G.I. 1911 mount require milling my slide?
No. It installs by replacing your factory rear sight in the existing dovetail, so there is no permanent machining to the slide. You can remove the mount and reinstall your original rear sight whenever you want to go back to irons.
Which red dots fit the EGW GI 1911 sight mount?
It uses the Docter footprint, so it fits the Vortex Viper, Vortex Venom open emitter, Burris FastFire 1 through 4, and Docter optics. It also works with the UTG Reflex Micro Dot and several ADE, Crimson Trace, and Sightmark models. The box includes hardware for both the Vortex and FastFire/Docter screw patterns.
Will this fit any 1911?
It is made for 1911s with a G.I. style rear sight cut, which covers models like the Springfield 1911A1 and various Iver Johnson 1911s. It does not fit Novak, Bomar, LPA, Kimber, Sig, or S&W cuts, so confirm your slide's rear sight cut before ordering.
Do I need any special tools to install it?
This is a press fit into the dovetail, so a sight pusher tool makes installation much easier and safer than drifting it by hand. Mounting screws use a 5/64 inch wrench and the set screw uses a 1/16 inch wrench. A dab of blue Loctite on the optic screws torqued to 15 in/lbs keeps everything locked in.
