Description

The FX7 from Faxon Firearms is a purpose-built Remington 700 footprint receiver, machined from 416 stainless steel and designed to be the backbone of a serious custom rifle build. This version comes in the Polished DLC finish, giving the action a bright, mirror-like surface while carrying the same hardness and corrosion resistance as Faxon's matte offering. It runs a .308 bolt face, which opens the door to a solid lineup of short action cartridges including .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor, 6GT, and 8.6 BLK.

FX7 Receiver Construction and Finish

Faxon didn't cut corners on materials here. The receiver body is 416 stainless steel, and the bolt is 4340 carbon steel with the flame fluting Faxon built its name on with its barrels. The polished DLC coating is applied through a PVD process, giving it a showcase-grade shine without sacrificing the durability you want in a working action. An integrated 20-MOA Picatinny rail and integrated recoil lug are machined directly into the receiver, so those are two parts you don't have to hunt down and fit separately.

Bolt Design on the FX7 Receiver

The bolt runs six lugs arranged in two rings of three, giving it a 70-degree throw instead of the 90-degree lift you'd get on an older two-lug action. That shorter throw means quicker cycling and more clearance to work the bolt under a low-mounted scope. Add in an M16-style extractor, a plunger ejector, and a heat-treated 17-4 stainless firing pin, and you've got a bolt built to run smooth and hold up over the long haul.

Since it's built on the Remington 700 short action footprint, this receiver drops right into the massive ecosystem of Rem 700 pattern parts already on the market. Triggers from TriggerTech, Timney, Bix'n Andy, and Jewel bolt straight up, and it works with chassis systems like KRG, MDT, Magpul, and XLR, plus stocks from Manners, McMillan, and Bell & Carlson. It also feeds from AICS and AW pattern magazines, so magazine compatibility is one less thing to worry about. Just note that some stocks may need a bit of extra inletting around the trigger hanger to seat properly. Machined in Cincinnati, Ohio, the FX7 gives builders a solid, American-made starting point for a rifle built exactly the way they want it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What cartridges will the FX7 receiver work with?

This version uses a .308 bolt face, which covers popular short action rounds like .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor, 6GT, and 8.6 BLK. Pair it with a matching Faxon Prefit or RemAge-style barrel in one of those chamberings and you're set to build.

Will my Remington 700 trigger and stock fit this receiver?

Yes, the FX7 uses the Remington 700 short action footprint, so it works with Rem 700 pattern triggers like TriggerTech, Timney, Bix'n Andy, and Jewel. It also fits most Rem 700 pattern chassis and stocks from brands like KRG, MDT, Manners, and McMillan, though a few stocks may need slight inletting around the trigger hanger.

What's the difference between the polished and matte FX7 receivers?

Both receivers are mechanically identical, using the same 416 stainless steel body and DLC coating for hardness and corrosion resistance. The polished version has a bright, mirror-like finish suited for showcase and competition builds, while the matte ArmorLube version has a low-glare finish better suited for hunting or tactical use.

Does the FX7 receiver come with a bolt already installed?

Yes, the FX7 ships with its matching 4340 carbon steel bolt installed, complete with Faxon's flame fluting, an M16-style extractor, and a plunger ejector. From there you'll just need to add your own trigger, stock or chassis, and barrel to finish the build.
