This FDE version wraps its 4-inch nitride barrel inside a faux suppressor, so you get that suppressed silhouette along with some extra rail space up front, all in a package that measures around 18.5 inches overall and weighs about 4.5 pounds.
If you've spent any time behind an AR-15, you already know how to run this gun. The safety selector, mag release, charging handle, and last round bolt hold open are all where your hands expect them to be. The magwell was purpose-built for Glock pattern double stack mags rather than adapted from a standard AR lower, and it ships with a 31-round ETS magazine so you're covered right out of the box. Any factory or aftermarket Glock 9mm double stack will feed it, which makes stocking up on spares cheap and easy.

The FX-9 runs on Glock pattern double stack 9mm magazines, and the magwell was designed for them from the ground up rather than converted from a standard AR lower. It ships with a 31-round ETS mag, and factory Glock mags along with quality aftermarket options like Magpul PMAGs will work too. That keeps spare mags affordable and easy to find.
It's mainly there for looks and to extend the sight radius and rail space over the stubby 4-inch barrel, giving the gun a full suppressed profile without the extra paperwork. It does help direct some of the muzzle blast forward and away from you. If you want to run a real can down the road, the barrel is threaded 1/2×28 for standard 9mm muzzle devices.
Freedom Ordnance recommends jacketed ammo, with 115 grain FMJ being the go-to for range days, and it also handles common 124 and 147 grain loads plus many jacketed hollow points for defensive use. Skip bare lead and unjacketed bullets, since they can foul the blowback system. Aluminum cased ammo is also worth avoiding in this platform.
Yes, that's one of the platform's biggest strengths. The lower is threaded for mil-spec buffer tubes and accepts most AR braces, grips, and trigger components, though Freedom Ordnance suggests sticking with the factory trigger group since it has extra disconnector engagement built in. The M-Lok handguard takes standard accessories, and the flat top rail handles any red dot or optic you like.
