Description
The Franklin Armory G-S173 is the first pull-and-release Binary trigger built for a striker-fired handgun, and it turns a plain Gen 3 Glock 17 into one of the most entertaining range guns you can own. The kit pairs a selector-switch slide with a matching two-position trigger, letting you toggle between standard semiauto and Binary mode. In Binary, you get one round on the pull and a second on the release, which drops your split times and tightens up fast follow-up shots. It carries that G18-style look while staying a simple mechanical trigger system, not select fire and not a forced reset setup.
What the G-S173 Slide Brings to the Table
Even setting the Binary function aside, this slide is a real step up from a factory Gen 3 unit. It ships with front and rear tritium night sights, high-tactile front and rear serrations for solid grip in any conditions, and anti-glare serrations across the top stripe to kill reflections. There's a factory optics cut for micro red dots, with adapter plates sold separately to match your footprint. The slide comes loaded with everything but the barrel and recoil system, so you'll drop in your own G17 barrel and spring.
Staying in Control With the Binary Kit
One of the smartest parts of the BFS design is the release-round cancellation. If you decide you don't want that second shot, you just flip the selector back to semi while the trigger is still held, and the release round never fires. An integrated back plate mode indicator lets you confirm which mode you're in without ever taking your eyes off the target, which is exactly what you want when things move quick.
Installing the G-S173
Swapping it onto your Glock 17 Gen 3 runs about as easy as any aftermarket trigger and slide job, usually only a few minutes for the trigger change. If you're not comfortable pulling the factory trigger group, a gunsmith or Franklin Armory certified armorer can handle it. Just note this is built specifically for the Gen 3 G17 and should not go into 80 percent frames.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the G-S173 Binary Kit come with a barrel?
No, the kit ships with the slide and trigger assembly only. The slide comes loaded with everything except the barrel and recoil system, so you'll reuse the barrel and recoil spring from your own Glock 17 Gen 3. Just drop those into the new slide and you're set.
How does Binary mode actually work on the G-S173?
In Binary mode the trigger fires one round when you pull it and a second round when you let it go, which is where the faster split times come from. It's a mechanical pull-and-release system, not select fire and not a forced reset trigger. You can also flip the selector back to semi to run it like a normal Glock any time.
Can I cancel the release round if I change my mind mid-shot?
Yes, and it's one of the best features of the BFS design. If you've pulled the trigger in Binary mode but don't want that second shot, just switch the selector back to semiautomatic while keeping the trigger held down. The release round is then cancelled and won't fire.
Is the Franklin Armory G-S173 hard to install?
It installs about as easily as any aftermarket trigger and slide, with the trigger swap usually taking only a few minutes. If you're not comfortable removing your factory trigger group, a gunsmith or Franklin Armory certified armorer can do it for you. Keep in mind it's designed specifically for the Gen 3 Glock 17 and should not be used in 80 percent frames.
