Description

The Franklin Armory BFSIII AR-Elite is a three-position trigger built for AR-platform rifles and pistols that lets you dramatically speed up your split times. Flip the patented selector into Binary mode and the rifle fires one round when you pull the trigger and a second round when you let it forward. Drop back to Semi and it behaves like a normal, well-tuned single-stage trigger with a crisp break and short reset. It's the closest thing to a full-auto feel you'll get on a standard lower without diving into serious paperwork and a five-figure price tag.

What Sets the AR-Elite Apart From the Standard BFSIII

This is the premium tier of the Binary lineup, and the big draw is the pair of interchangeable trigger bows in the box. You get both a curved shoe and a flat, straight-faced shoe, so you can dial in whichever geometry matches your grip and trigger finger. The pull weight comes in around 4.5 lbs with a half-pound tolerance either way, and it's genuinely smooth. Plenty of owners note the Semi mode alone feels good enough to justify the trigger even before you touch Binary.

Running the BFSIII AR-Elite in the Real World

The selector gives you three honest stops: Safe won't fire, Semi fires one per pull, and Binary fires on pull and release. There's also a release-round override, meaning you can cancel that second shot by rotating the selector out of Binary while holding the trigger back. That's a handy safety net if you decide mid-string you don't want the follow-up round to go. It's broadly compatible across calibers including 5.56 NATO, .308 Win, 300 BLK, 9mm, and rimfire, and it works with most standard bolt carrier groups.

Installation is straightforward for anyone comfortable inside a lower receiver, though Franklin Armory recommends a certified armorer or gunsmith handle it and apply the included selector indicator sticker. The kit ships with a stronger buffer spring option to help hard-cycling setups run clean, which is worth using if you notice any short-stroking. Read the manual front to back, run the function checks, and this trigger rewards you with fast, controlled double taps that stay surprisingly tight on target.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the BFSIII AR-Elite binary trigger actually work?

In the third selector position, the trigger fires one round when you pull it and a second round when you let it travel forward. Position two runs as a standard semi-auto trigger, one round per pull, and position one is safe. This setup drastically cuts your split times between shots for faster, controlled strings.

Can I cancel the second shot if I change my mind?

Yes. The AR-Elite has a release-round override, so you can rotate the selector out of Binary while holding the trigger back to keep that second round from firing. It's a useful feature when you want to stop a string mid-pull without sending the follow-up shot.

Is the BFSIII AR-Elite hard to install?

It's a manageable drop-in for anyone comfortable working inside an AR lower, but Franklin Armory recommends a certified armorer or gunsmith do the install and run the required function checks. The kit includes a selector indicator sticker that's meant to be applied during installation. Read the full manual before you start and verify every function test.

Why does the kit come with two buffer springs?

The AR-Elite includes a standard spring and a stronger one because binary firing cycles the action quickly and some setups need extra spring tension to run reliably. If you notice short-stroking or the bolt not holding open on the last round, swapping to the stronger spring usually cleans that up. It's an easy change that helps the trigger run smoothly across different rifles.
