Anyone who has touched off a .338 Lapua without ear pro knows big magnums are a different animal. The muzzle blast punishes you, your spotter, and everyone else on the line. That is the exact problem Fuqua Precision Machining set out to solve with the WAP 338. Instead of asking a repurposed .30 cal can to survive magnum pressures, FPM built this one from the ground up around the .338 bore, so the rifles with the most bark finally get a purpose-built answer.
The whole can is titanium, which is how FPM landed at a very packable 12.7 ounces. That matters more on a .338 than almost any other platform, because these rifles are already heavy and a steel magnum can hanging off a 26 inch barrel changes the balance in a hurry. Titanium keeps the weight off the muzzle while still shrugging off the heat and pressure a Lapua-class cartridge dumps into the baffle stack. The black finish keeps things low key on a tactical build or a backcountry rifle alike.
Here is the part worth paying attention to: this suppressor is full-auto rated. Most of us will never run a .338 on a giggle switch, but that rating tells you how much margin FPM machined into this can. Yes. A .338 bore suppressor works fine on smaller rifle calibers like .300 Win Mag, 7mm magnums, 6.5s, and .308, as long as your muzzle threads match or you use the right adapter. You give up a touch of sound performance compared to a caliber-specific can, but you gain one suppressor that covers your whole rifle rack.
It is, per FPM Gunworks. For most buyers the real value of that rating is durability headroom. A can built to survive automatic fire with magnum-class cartridges is not going to be stressed by long strings from a bolt action or semi-auto precision rifle.
Very little, and that is the point. Steel magnum cans often run well over a pound and a half, which makes a long barreled .338 feel muzzle heavy fast. At 12.7 ounces of titanium, the WAP 338 keeps blast and recoil in check without wrecking the handling of a rifle you might carry into the field.
Most .30 caliber suppressors are not rated for the pressure and volume a .338 Lapua produces, so running one is off the table.
