This factory FN conversion fixes that. It swaps your rifle from the old reciprocating layout to a non-reciprocating charging handle (NRCH) setup, so the handle locks forward when the bolt closes and stays right there through the entire firing cycle.
The kit isn't just a handle. It comes with a new NRCH bolt carrier, an updated charging handle sled, a front plate with latch pin and screws, and two ambidextrous, reversible charging handles. One handle sits at a 30-degree cant that clears low-mount optics, and the other is a low-profile design for a slimmer footprint. Both swap side to side and can be changed in the field, so you can run whatever works best for your grip and glass.
Beyond keeping the handle still, the new bolt carrier carries reduced reciprocating mass, which trims felt recoil on a rifle that already shoots soft. The handles lock forward on bolt-close, giving you a genuine forward-assist function that the original SCAR didn't have. That combination opens up positions that used to be awkward, like urban prone, shooting off a barrier, or running a CQC-style grip up front.
This is the Light version, built specifically for the FN SCAR 16S chambered in 5.56 NATO / .223 Rem. It will not fit the 17S or 20S, which use their own dedicated kits. Installation is a straightforward parts swap for anyone comfortable working on their SCAR, and the whole assembly is finished in black to match the rifle. It's the identical setup FN puts on current NRCH production guns, so you're bringing an older 16S up to the latest factory spec.
