The .45 ACP has been around for well over a century, and the FN 545 Tactical is proof it still has plenty of life left. This is essentially the FN 509 Tactical scaled up for the big bore crowd, and FN did not cut corners getting there. You get a striker-fired action with a crisp trigger breaking right around 6 pounds, a polymer frame with 360 degree grip texturing, and fully ambidextrous slide stop and magazine release. Two interchangeable backstraps let you dial in the grip, and the trigger guard undercut plus high beavertail help the pistol settle naturally into the hand.
The 4.71 inch cold hammer-forged barrel is target crowned for accuracy and threaded .578×28, the standard pitch for most .45 caliber suppressors and compensators. Since .45 ACP is naturally subsonic, this pistol makes an outstanding suppressor host without hunting down special ammo. The tritium night sights are suppressor height, so they clear most cans and co-witness with most micro red dots. A polished feed ramp and chamber keep things running smoothly no matter what you feed it.
The slide on the FN 545 Tactical is machined steel with front and rear cocking serrations and comes cut for optics using FN's low-profile mounting system. Four MRD adapter plates ship in the box, covering popular footprints like the Trijicon RMR, Holosun, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and Vortex families. No gunsmith, no waiting, just pick your dot and mount it. A MIL-STD-1913 rail up front handles lights and lasers.
At 31 ounces empty and 8.3 inches long, this pistol runs about the same size as a Government profile 1911 while weighing noticeably less than most steel frame guns. This version ships with two 10 round magazines, and the whole package arrives in a quality zippered case with backstraps, mounting plates, and manual included. For home defense, range work, or building out a suppressed .45 setup, this one checks every box.

The barrel is threaded .578×28, which is the industry standard pitch for .45 caliber suppressors, so most cans on the market will thread right on. It also works with compensators using the same pitch. Since .45 ACP is subsonic out of the box, standard ammo suppresses very well without any special loads.
No, this model does not have an external manual safety. It relies on an integrated trigger safety along with internal drop safeties, similar to most modern striker-fired pistols. The slide stop lever and magazine release are fully ambidextrous, which is handy for left-handed use.
The Tactical version adds a longer 4.71 inch threaded barrel versus the 4.1 inch unthreaded barrel on the MRD, plus suppressor-height tritium night sights instead of standard-height sights. Both share the same optic-cut slide, frame, and trigger. If you plan on running a suppressor or compensator now or down the road, the Tactical is the one to get.
