If you run an L.E. Wilson Case Trimmer and load .45 Colt, this is the holder you need to get those straight-walled cases trimmed right. Wilson has been making precision reloading tools since 1927, and these pistol holders carry that same reputation. The .45 Colt holder (part number PH-45C) is cut to cradle the case body itself, much like a chamber does, so the brass sits square to the cutter face and comes out the same length pass after pass.
Straight-walled pistol cases like the .45 Colt have almost no body taper, so they need a holder built more like a neck-sizing die than a standard rifle case holder. This one grips the case firmly along the wall, keeping everything aligned while you trim. The holder is also made a touch longer than the case and counter-bored at the mouth end for cutter clearance, which protects the case mouth as the brass is seated fully inside.
These are designed for fired brass, and because there's no taper to grab, cases get pressed in and driven back out rather than simply tapped like most rifle cases. A light arbor press makes quick work of seating, and a wooden dowel slipped inside the case is the easiest way to push it back out once trimmed. It's a slower process than rifle trimming, no question, but the payoff is brass that measures the same every time, which translates to clean, uniform crimps on your .45 Colt loads.

If you're chasing consistency in your .45 Colt reloads and already own a Wilson trimmer, dropping one of these in your kit is a simple call. Note that Wilson also offers Q-Style holders for pistol cartridges when available, which use a wedge instead of the press-fit method.
It's designed specifically for the L.E. Wilson Case Trimmer, not universal trimmers. The holder seats into the Wilson trimmer and holds the case square to the cutter face. If you don't already run a Wilson trimmer, you'll want one to use this holder.
