Fiocchi's Exacta VIP line carries over 50 years of clay target pedigree. These 28 gauge shells pair Italian excellence in primers, hulls, and wads with American reliability in shot and powders. That combination has won medals at Olympics and world championships, and the same quality loads are available now in this sub-gauge format.
With a 1300 fps velocity and 3/4 ounce payload of #7.5 lead shot, this load strikes the balance that competitive shooters depend on. The #7.5 size provides enough energy for clean breaks on clay targets while maintaining the pattern density needed for consistent hits across moderate ranges. Whether you're working trap, skeet, or sporting clays, these rounds deliver predictable performance shot after shot.
The 28 gauge shines when you're putting in serious practice or competition rounds. A six-pound shotgun pushing 3/4 ounce at 1300 fps generates less than 13 foot-pounds of recoil energy, which means you can focus on your mechanics instead of flinching by the third round. Over 100 targets on the course or a long practice session, that manageable recoil makes a real difference in your shoulder and your scores.
These shells use high-antimony lead shot in quality cushioned wads to minimize deformation as they leave the barrel. That construction keeps your patterns tight and consistent, which is what matters when you're trying to break clays at distance or in awkward presentations.
These shells are engineered to meet Olympic and world-class shooter standards, using high-quality components loaded to strict tolerances. The combination of Italian precision in primers and wads with American reliability in powders delivers consistent patterns and performance across multiple targets, which is essential for competitive clay shooting.
The 1300 fps velocity provides sufficient energy for most semi-auto shotguns, though some semi-autos require faster loads. For semi-automatics, 1250+ fps is generally recommended. For over-and-under or pump shotguns, this velocity is ideal and will function reliably in any shotgun chambered for 2-3/4" 28 gauge shells.
Number 7.5 shot carries more energy per pellet than #8, making it better for breaking targets at moderate distances and edge-on presentations. Number 8 disperses faster and is more effective on closer, belly-on targets. Most competitive clay shooters stock both sizes depending on the course layout or discipline.
Yes, these come in plastic hulls with brass bases that can be reloaded. However, many shooters run factory rounds for competition to eliminate variables. Check with your reloading manual for load data specific to this shell configuration.
