The Fiocchi VIP line carries over 50 years of competition-proven heritage. These shells are built from the ground up for serious clay target work, not as an afterthought to hunting ammunition. Each load uses high-quality components loaded to strict tolerances that Olympic and world-class shooters depend on for match day.
Fiocchi produces these loads in both Italy and their US facility, which means you get the best of both worlds: Italian precision in hull and wad design combined with American reliability in powder and shot consistency. The #7.5 shot size strikes a balance that works across multiple disciplines. It delivers enough pellet energy to break targets at distance while providing decent pattern density for closer presentations. The 7/8 oz payload with 1210 fps velocity is standard for 20 gauge competitive loads, making it a versatile choice whether you're practicing or competing.
These aren't light-recoil plinking rounds, but they're not brutal either. The cushioned wad design and clean-burning powder keep felt recoil manageable so you can put down box after box during a long day at the range or at a club shoot. The consistent velocities mean your patterns stay predictable from shot one to shot 250.
While the VIP line earned its reputation in trap houses, it performs equally well in skeet and sporting clays. Many competitive shooters maintain multiple shot sizes in their kit for different target presentations, and #7.5 remains the go-to choice for longer targets and rabbit presentations in sporting clays.
The VIP line is the premium competition offering with tighter component tolerances and stricter quality controls built for world-class shooters on match day. Shooting Dynamics provides excellent performance at a lower price point for practice and high-volume shooting. Both use quality components, but VIP represents the top tier of Fiocchi's clay target ammunition.
These 2.75" shells are compatible with any modern 20 gauge shotgun chambered for standard 2.75" shells, including semi-autos, over-unders, and side-by-sides. Test a box to make sure your specific gun runs them smoothly, as individual shotguns can sometimes prefer certain ammunition, but compatibility is almost universal with 20 gauge shotguns.
It depends on distance and target type. The #7.5 carries more energy at distance, making it better for longer presentations and rabbit targets in sporting clays. Number 8 provides denser patterns for closer work and skeet shooting. Many competitive shooters keep both on hand for different course setups and target presentations.
Yes, Fiocchi hulls are reloadable and are popular with competitive shooters who handload. The quality of Fiocchi cases makes them suitable for multiple reloads, though check the condition of each hull before reloading and follow standard safe reloading practices.
